Homebrew Chozo Species Details
This species is part of the "Metroid into Dungeons and Dragons" Homebrew pack. All rights are reserved to Nintendo.
The Chozo are an intelligent avian species. There are many tribes of Chozo, and most of them are peaceful, but some warrior tribes use their advanced technology and melee prowess. The Chozo are very limited in number, but long ago, they ruled ancient civilizations on many different planets. They can live for millennia and share their wisdom with other species. Chozo warriors are strong and fast in combat, moving around the battlefield quickly and attacking with flair.
Ancient Civilization
The Chozo have a long past, filled with both war and peace. Their ancient ruins are massive and hold many secrets. The walls of their civilizations are full of details of their past, written in the Chozo language.
The Chozo have been around for millennia, and because of this, they have nearly perfected their technology. Chozo technology is advanced and can be hard to understand, but they share it with other species as a means of helping them.
Metroid Connection
The Chozo created the Metroids and watched over them for some time. They can control them and command them in some way. However, once the Metroids started evolving, they lost most of their control over them.
The Chozo had discovered a parasitic organism that could kill a creature in moments just by touching it. The parasite could then copy the creature perfectly, having all of the abilities, powers, and memories of whatever they killed. The Chozo dubbed them X. They created the Metroids for the sole reason of destroying the X, and the Metroids were successful in expelling most of them.
Proven Warriors
Chozo will go very far to prove themselves to the other warriors in their tribe. Usually, it includes hunting immense beasts while wearing no armor, bare-chested to show off the scars they gain from their battles.
Due to countless decades of training, the Chozo are experts with all weapons and are strong enough to wield and use heavy weapons with only one arm. Sometimes they will carry a shield as well for extra protection. They may even go into battle with no weapon, using their sharp talons to attack instead.
Aeion Energy
The Chozo have a mystical connection to an energy source called Aeion. Aeion allows them to use powerful Abilities that vary in use. There are six different Aeion Abilities that the Chozo can use and they can expend Aeion Points to fuel these Abilities. As they get stronger they can choose more Abilities.
Flash Shift
You can choose this Aeion Ability starting at level 1. As a Bonus Action, you can expend up to 3 Aeion Points to use the Flash Shift, allowing you to move without provoking Opportunity Attacks. If you Flash Shift to a space within 5 feet of a hostile creature, you can make a free attack against them with Advantage or attempt to grapple them.
1 Aeion Point: Flash Shift up to 30 feet in a straight line.
2 Aeion Points: Flash Shift through a space a creature already occupies.
3 Aeion Points: Flash Shift up to 60 feet in a straight line. You can change direction after the first 30.
Melee Counter
You can choose this Aeion Ability starting at level 1. As a Reaction, you can expend 1 Aeion Point to counter a melee attack that hits you. Roll a Strength ability check contested by the attacker. On a success, you reduce the damage to 0, and the attacker must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus your Strength modifier and Proficiency Bonus) or be Stunned until the start of their next turn. On a failure, you don't reduce the damage to 0, and the attacker doesn't make the Constitution saving throw.
Attack Burst
You can choose this Aeion Ability starting at level 1. After you take an action to attack, as a Bonus Action, you can expend up to 3 Aeion Points to make two more attacks. The amount you spend will change your second attack roll.
1 Aeion Point: Make two attacks with one at Disadvantage.
2 Aeion Points: Make two attacks.
3 Aeion Points: Make two attacks with one at Advantage.
Lightning Armor
You can choose this Aeion Ability starting at level 5. As a Bonus Action, you can expend 2 Aeion Points to cover your body with lightning, giving you a +3 bonus to your Armor Class. When hit by an attack, you can choose to expend 1 Aeion Point to reduce damage to 0 and deal 3d8 Lightning damage to the attacker if it is a melee attack. Lightning Armor automatically stops when you run out of Aeion Points, but can also be canceled at will.
Phantom Cloak
You can choose this Aeion Ability starting at level 5. As an Bonus Action, you can expend 1 Aeion Point to turn Invisible, and 1 Aeion point is expended for every round in combat or minute out of combat the Phantom Cloak is active. Your movement speed is halved while the Ability is active. You have to expend 1 Aeion Point to make attacks. As a Bonus Action, you can turn off the Phantom Cloak. You cannot use other Aeion Abilities while the Phantom Cloak is active.
Phase Drift
You can choose this Aeion Ability starting at level 9. As a Reaction, you can expend 3 Aeion Points to slow down time to avoid a critical hit, succeed on a failed Dexterity saving throw, or to reroll a 1 on a D20 Test. This Ability has a cooldown for three rounds.
