Homebrew Corrupt Species Details

The Corrupted are a volatile and mysterious race, said to be the living embodiment of balance—yet plagued by the instability it brings. Each Corrupted harbors three souls within a single body: one good, one evil, and one neutral. The neutral soul governs daily life, acting as a fragile mediator between the extremes. But when certain emotional thresholds are crossed, either the good or evil soul can seize control, transforming the Corrupted into a radiant guardian or a wrathful destroyer.

Visually, the Corrupted appear as paradoxes made flesh. Horns and halos coexist above their heads. Their bodies are symmetrical split reflections of light and shadow. When their wings emerge, they reveal their duality: a glowing, feathered wing like a celestial being's, and a batlike wing of dark matter on the opposite side.

Though they resemble angels and demons, the Corrupted are neither. They are their own cursed creation, forged by unknown powers—or perhaps by the universe itself, seeking equilibrium.

Corrupt Traits

These creatures have many traits to them, many are useful and others are hindering

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom or Charisma increases by 2, and one other score of your choice increases by 1.

Dual Nature

  • Havoc Mode (Evil Soul): When you take a critical hit or drop below half HP, you may enter Havoc Mode. For 1 minute, you gain advantage on Strength checks and saving throws, your melee attacks deal extra damage equal to your proficiency bonus, and you must attack the nearest creature each turn (friend or foe). Once used, you must finish a long rest to use it again.

  • Angelic Mode (Good Soul): If you choose not to retaliate when attacked, or perform a major act of mercy or sacrifice, you may enter Angelic Mode. For 1 minute, you gain resistance to necrotic damage and can use the spare the dying and healing word cantrips. Once used, you must finish a long rest to use it again.

DM Note: These triggers can be roleplay-based or mechanical. Encourage players to describe their character's inner struggle.

Wings of Duality

You can manifest your wings as a bonus action for 1 minute. You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed, but you cannot fly while wearing medium or heavy armor. You can use this once per long rest. This also adds 2 to your armor class.

Sacred Flame

Flame-like radiance descends on a creature that you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 Radiant damage. The target gains no benefit from Half Cover or Three-Quarters Cover for this save.
