Homebrew Corvalin Species Details

In the oldest parts of the ocean, deep within drowned forests and sunken ruins, colonies of sentient coral give rise to life. Over decades, these coral minds bond with sea-worn debris, the souls of the drowned, and arcane currents to form the Corvalin—a towering, living reef that walks like a person.

Their bodies resemble weathered wood and bleached coral, with long limbs, broad torsos, and barnacle-crusted skin. Bioluminescent moss and small sea creatures often live in their crevices. Coral crowns or antler-like ridges grow from their backs and shoulders. Each Corvalin is a walking ecosystem.

They move slowly, think deeply, and rarely raise their voices. Despite their imposing size, most are peaceful and deliberate, acting only when needed. A Corvalin will stand watch over a tide-shifted village for weeks without moving or speak only once during an entire voyage—but when they speak, it's usually worth listening to.

Corvalin are not builders. They are guardians, guides, and living memory. Their wisdom is ancient, filtered through coral that remembers centuries of rising tides.

Corvalin Traits

As a Corvalin, your body is a living fusion of coral, driftwood, and seawater memory. Though slow to act, your patience, resilience, and deep connection to the ocean grant you unique physical defenses and an enduring presence in a world drowning around you. You gain the following traits.

Reefhide

Your body is partially covered in living coral plating. When you are not wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Constitution modifier.

Tidebond Rest

You do not need to sleep. Instead, you enter a meditative rest for 4 hours while remaining partially aware of your surroundings, often partially submerged or anchored in place. You gain the benefits of a long rest after this period.

Living Reef

You can communicate simple emotions and ideas telepathically to other Corvalin or coral-based creatures within 60 feet using subtle vibrations and pulses of light through your coral growths.
