Avali (Custom Species)
Lightweight nomads of the stars, born from ice and forged in technology.

Physical Description:
Avali are a unique avian-reptilian species, easily recognized by their four ears—furred, feathered, and scaled in select regions. Their heads sport a “mane” of feathery or spiky hair, which flows down the back of the neck and along the arms. Their bodies feature patterned patches of color ranging from 2 to 8 hues, forming natural designs that blend across both feather and fur.

They possess digitigrade, raptor-like legs with scaled feet, and two-fingered hands with opposable thumbs, each ending in small claws. Their tails resemble those of chimeras or lions but end in a large feather fan instead of fur, with a plume of feathers near the base. Their eyes are wide, trapezoidal in shape, and designed for panoramic vision—lacking eyelids, they are instead covered by a protective membrane.

Avali head structures resemble those of feathered raptors with softer, rounded features, giving them a distinctive silhouette. They are often clad in high-tech nanofiber garments, typically flowing bell-shaped coats or tundra-inspired robes that double as lightweight armor.

History:
Originally from the frozen planet Avalon, the Avali were once invaded by an alien species whose advanced technology reshaped Avali society. Since then, the Avali have reverse-engineered and repurposed this tech into their own cultural identity—developing tools, weapons, and structures that blend organic beauty with sleek utility.

Nomadic by nature, Avali history is not preserved through written records, but through innovation and oral tradition. They craft weapons and tools using unique materials like sand-forged glass, aegis gel, and alloys of graphite, passed down between generations and tribes. Carbon nanofiber armor and VTOL vehicles are standard for their more advanced settlements.

Though a centralized government once existed, long distances and isolation between tribes led to its fragmentation. Avali now live across scattered worlds, each tribe with its own customs, dialects, and identities.

Society:
Avali society is built on the strength of adaptability, mobility, and decentralization. Most Avali live in small tribes of 20–40 individuals, centered around a mobile outpost or camp. The smallest social unit is the "pack"—a tight-knit group of 6–10 Avali who work, travel, and live together as a chosen family.

Unlike many species, Avali do not form traditional kinship bonds. Offspring are treated as individuals from birth, not as children of their parents but as new members of the community. Emotional closeness forms through shared experiences, not blood ties.

Tribal leadership is typically managed by a council of 3 to 6 members, depending on tribe size. On worlds where Avali have long-term settlements, these can evolve into full colonies of several hundred. Despite their fragmentation, Avali tribes maintain common values rooted in curiosity, resourcefulness, and survival.

They cultivate alien plant life adapted from Avalon, and their society often blends wilderness survival with advanced technology. Avali tend to be self-sufficient, inquisitive, and forward-looking, always scanning the stars for their next destination.
