Homebrew Awakened Mimic Species Details
In their natural forms, mimics are little more than roaming stomachs, their blobby bodies covered with alien eyes and teeth. They can alter their color, texture, and dimensions to duplicate inanimate objects of their approximate size. Mimics use their disguises as both camouflage and bait. Once victims draw close, mimics strike, lashing out with their sticky pseudopods and toothy mouths. After consuming victims, mimics usually relocate, change form, and await their next meal.
Creating Your Character
At 1st level, you choose whether your character is a member of the human race or of a fantastical race. If you select a fantastical race, follow these additional rules during character creation.
Ability Score Increases
When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.
Languages
Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character.

As a mimic, you have the following racial traits.Creature Type
You are a Monstrosity.
Size
You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.
Speed
Your walking speed is 30 feet.
Adhesive Grasp
Your body acts as a powerful adhesive that lets you stick to anything you touch. As a reaction when you touch an object or creature of size Huge or smaller, you can become sticky and grapple it. This ability does not function on creatures that are not in a solid form. The escape DC is equal to 10 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus, and creatures grappled in this way have disadvantage on checks made to escape.
Your adhesive lasts for a number of minutes equal to 1 + your Constitution modifier. You can use this trait a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Monstrous Maw
Your body splits open to expose a tremendous maw lined with jagged, vicious teeth. Make an unarmed attack against a creature, dealing 1d8 + Str piercing damage on a hit. You have advantage on this attack roll against creatures you are grappling.
Additionally, after the attack hits a creature you are grappling you can use a Bonus Action to bite down on it, holding it firmly in your teeth. A creature you are biting down on is restrained while it remains grappled by you, and you cannot bite down on another creature until you release it (no action required).
Shapechanging
As an action, you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration and other physical characteristics. You can also adjust your height and weight and can change your size between Medium and Small. You can make yourself appear as an object or a member of another species, though none of your game statistics change. You can’t duplicate the appearance of an individual you’ve never seen. Your clothing and equipment aren’t changed by this trait.
You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die.
False Appearance. While you are in object form and remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
