Homebrew Vorellian Species Details

According to the dragonborn, Io's first child was Vorel, a dim-witted yet good natured dragon who had the perfect physical characteristics of dragonkind. While Io loved Vorel, he decided that one dragon could not embody all aspects of dragonkind and went on to create Bahamut and Tiamat, the two dragons embodying all aspects of dragonkind. While Io intended for the two to eventually mate and produce the perfect dragons, Bahamut and Tiamat instead formed an immediate rivalry and strived to get their father's affection over the other. When Bahamut started to gain more attention, Tiamat started to scheme and took notice of Io's love for Vorel. After failing to get her brother to form a hatred for Vorel, Tiamat resorted to slaying Vorel and framing Bahamut. While Tiamat expected Io to become enraged, Io deducted Tiamat as the true killer and banished her from his presence. With all of her love for her father gone, Tiamat created all of evil dragonkind, prompting Bahamut to respond back by creating all of good dragonkind. When Tiamat killed Vorel his body fell upon the world and from his flesh and blood came dragonborn. They were approached by Aasterinian/Hlal and told that if Tiamat learned of their existence, she may wipe them out as she had their progenitor. They learned to disguise themselves as humans, eventually seeming to be just a variant or demi-human species. They have built a temple to Vorel and Io in the place where Vorel fell.

Vorellians look like humans with some draconic traits. I.e. larger builds, scaly skin, sharp teeth, reptilian eyes. They can be of any element as they were spawned from Vorel who in Io's eyes was the perfect dragon.

Breath Weapon

When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in either a 15-foot Cone or a 30-foot Line that is 5 feet wide (choose the shape each time). Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Constitution modifier and Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 1d10 damage of the type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach character levels 5 (2d10), 11 (3d10), and 17 (4d10).

You can use this Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Damage Resistance

You have Resistance to the damage type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Draconic Flight

When you reach character level 5, you can channel draconic magic to give yourself temporary flight. As a Bonus Action, you sprout spectral wings on your back that last for 10 minutes or until you retract the wings (no action required) or have the Incapacitated condition. During that time, you have a Fly Speed equal to your Speed. Your wings appear to be made of the same energy as your Breath Weapon. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
