Homebrew Beipiaosaurus Species Details

Aquarax waddles into the inn, drawing inquisitive gazes from the patrons within. Fully aware of the he attention he is garnering, he nethertheless sits down at the bar and tries to pretend that nothing is amiss.

After a long silence, the innkeeper approaches him and asks, "Can I get anything for you?"

"You have any halibut?", inquires Aquarax.

The barkeep nods and walks off into the back. A minute passes. All eyes are still on Aquarax. A large half-orc rises out of his chair and walks over to him. 

"So, wha'er you supposed to be anyway? Some kind of flarked-up duck?", grunts the half-orc. He laughs at his own joke. Aquarax glares at the half-orc, but the half-orc persists. "That's a fancy lookin' amulet you got there. Hope you don't mind if I borrow i-".

Just as he begins to reach for the necklace containing a deep blue gemstone, his sentence is cut short. The half-orc is lying on the ground, his chest slashed open and bleeding. Aquarax looks down at the half-orc, and then at the rest of the patrons. No one is looking at Aquarax.

"What!? He was asking for it."

That was hella cringe, but it gets the job done.

This race is based off the Beipiaosaurus dinosaur, specifically the portrayal in the video game The Isle. I for the life of me can't figure out the lore for this thing, so that part's up to you. Hope you enjoy.

Changelog: 

- The original version includes an ability that allows a Beipiaosaurus to take a long rest in 15 minutes. I have no clue how this slipped past my notice before. I fixed it.

- I removed the (fixed) from the Species Name. It was bothering me.

- Bit of an overhaul. I removed some features to make it more balanced.

- Second overhaul, bringing the race more in line with those found in official materials.

- Modified and consolidated two abilities to balance species.

Beipiaosaurus Traits

Your Beipiaosaurus has certain traits in common with all other Beipiaosaurus.

Creature Type

You are a (dubious) Humanoid.

Size

Beipiaosaurus stand around 3 - 4 feet tall and 6 - 7 feet long, and average about 200 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed of 35 feet.

Saurian Strength

You have proficiency in the Athletics skill. Additionally, when in water, your long jump is up to 25 feet and your high jump is up to 15 feet, with a swimming start of at least 10 feet.

Claws

You have claws that you can use to make unarmed strikes. You have proficiency with this attack. When you hit an attack with them, you deal 1d4 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. 

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Hold Breath

You can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes at a time.
