Homebrew Archmage Soul Sword Species Details

Once a mighty archmage, your soul was forcibly imprisoned within a magical weapon—whether by divine punishment, betrayal, or self-inflicted ritual. Now a sentient relic, you no longer possess flesh or voice, but your will endures. You drift through time and conflict, inhabiting the corpses of the fallen, walking in borrowed flesh to continue your arcane journey. Though each host is fleeting, you search for one strong enough to contain the full might of your former self and restore your lost body to life—or something beyond it.

Archmage Soul Sword Traits

Soulform Traits

Possess Corpse

  • Rules:
    • The possessed corpse functions using all of its normal actions, features, and stats except intelligence.
    • You cannot speak or cast spells unless the body could.
    • You may possess any creature of CR ≤ your character level.
    • A body you are possessing only receives half healing from any source.
    • The body must remain in contact with the sword to maintain possession. If that connection is lost the body collapses and goes inert.

Soulbound Form

While not possessing a corpse, you are a sentient magical weapon. You are indestructible except by Wish or a god’s intervention, immune to poison, psychic, and necrotic damage, and cannot be targeted by spells that only affect creatures.

Perception Anchor

While not possessing a corpse you have darkvision 120 ft. and blindsight 30 ft.

Soul Echo

When you possess a corpse, you know its name, the last 10 minutes of its memories, and any languages it knew. This allows limited speech and interaction even through alien hosts.
