Homebrew Death Sworn Species Details

Death sworn are people that stood at the doors of death. In their final moments they struck a deal with the one they thought was death itself. They were promised just a little bit of more time in the world of the living to make their peace with their past. However they were robbed from the gift of death; when they were ready to move on, each one realized the fate that awaited them. Trapped inside the most important belongings of their own. For the foreseeable future they were stuck in nothingness; unable to move, unable to breathe, unable to scream. They were tortured until someday an unfortunate soul would dare to touch them, consuming the poor soul's existence they free themselves from their cage. Now free from their living relic form; some seek vengance against the one who they struck the deal with , some bring the gift of death to the people through carnage and some just enjoy it and keep living their unholy life.

As a Death Sworn, you have these special traits.

Deathless Nature

  • You have resistance to necrotic damage.
  • You have advantage on death saving throws.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in an inactive, motionless state, during which you retain consciousness.
  • You nor your host can attune to any other magic item
  • You cant be healed by most magic. Healing Spells and magic have no effect on you. However you can still heal with your own class abilities, such as figther's second wind.
  • If you are below half your hit point maximum at the start of your turn, you regain hit points equal to your proficiency bonus. You can choose to get this heal when you are at 0 hp if you do so you suffer a failed death saving throw. Also you only reset your death saves if you succeed on 3 of them or on a short/long rest.
  • If you die, you return to your Living Relic form waiting for a vessel. If a creature attunes to you, you can choose to grant the benefits on the table to them. You can also share a psychic bond with them. Additionally you can choose to take over their body. If you try to take over their body the vessel makes a wisdom saving throw (DC 10 + your character level) upon fail you return back to life and the vessel is consumed. On a success the vessel is immune to this effect for a duration (TBD). If someone tries to use your relic form against your will you can magically adhere to any surface you come into contact with and essentially refuse to be used by that creature, you can end this effect whenever you wish
  • The only way for you to truly die is by destroying the relic. Work with your DM to decide what is required to destroy the relic

Your Living Relic gets stronger with your proficiency bonus and grants the benefits below accordingly. You cant be seperated from your relic by any means.
