Homebrew Beenomorph Species Details
Beenomorph are not born, they awaken. Each is a sentient swarm of thousands of bees, woven together into a singular identity. While most Beenomorph maintain a humanoid disguise, their true form is fluid, shifting, and strange. They remember nothing of their origin and often seek meaning through imitation of other races.
Some believe the Beenomorph were created by druids. Others say they are a magical accident - or a self-replicating spell that gained consciousness. Whatever the truth, they are alien in though, loyal in instinct, and endlessly adaptable.
Beenomorph Traits
As a Beenomorph, your form is not flesh and blood but a humming cloud of coordinated insects. You can shift, shape, and sacrifice your own body in pursuit of your goals - but doing so diminishes your strength until you can regrow.Hive Mind
Your mind and consciousness is spread across thousands of bees, each acting as a living fragment of memory. This collective awareness allows your swarm to share the same memory and telepathically communicate with your bees, even if you've split into two separate swarms. Additionally, you may gain advantage on one Intelligence check once per long rest.
Swarm Body
Your physical form is not solid, but a cohesive cloud of intelligent bees. This gives you remarkable flexibility, mobility, and adaptability, though at the cost of conventional equipment use. You can assume the shape of anything, with your default form being humanoid. If you take the form of a non-humanoid object, it must be something you’ve seen within the last 7 days. These transformations are purely visual and functional in shape, not in material or structure. Your swarm is immune to being grappled, restrained, or knocked prone, and you can move through spaces as small as 1 inch wide without squeezing. You cannot wear armor. You can hold and manipulate objects, but only while in a humanoid or limb-capable shape. You are limited to light weapons (such as daggers, sickles, or hand crossbows), and have disadvantage when wielding heavy or two-handed weapons. If you change into a form that lacks limbs or appendages, any held items are immediately dropped.
Split Hive
Your swarm is not a singular creature, but a collective - a hive intelligence capable of dividing its consciousness and body into multiple autonomous units. Through careful coordination, you can separate a portion of your swarm to create a second, independent form.
Whether sending a scout composed of a single bee or splitting your numbers evenly, you remain mentally linked to both halves. Each swarm can act on its own, executing tasks, flanking enemies, or exploring separate paths. However, your power is divided along with your numbers - both swarms suffer reduced combat effectiveness, and only one may carry your core belongings.
The second swarm may carry small items if it adopts a form capable of doing so, but lacks the strength and cohesion to bear gear like a backpack. You can recombine when close together, consolidating your health and presence. Temporary vitality lingers from one swarm, but cannot be drawn from both.
This ability reflects the adaptability of the hive - a living embodiment of split attention, cooperative intent, and sacrifice.
Discharge Beegone
Your swarm can weaponize its own members, launching bees with deadly precision and intent. When you attack this way, a single bee is sacrificed to strike the target, stinging with both natural and magical force. You can target a creature within 30 feet as an action, making a ranged spell attack using your Dexterity modifier for the attack roll. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 piercing damage. This damage is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity. After each use, you lose 1 HP, representing the bee that was sacrificed. While this power can be used repeatedly, excessive use weakens the swarm and puts your form at risk. This attack does not count as a spell and does not require components.
Regrow Swarm
Your connection to nature and the rhythm of your hive allows your swarm to rapidly recover when threatened. On your turn, you may use a bonus action to regenerate a portion of your swarm. You regain hit points equal to 1d12 + your character level. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before using it again. If you are within 10 feet of flowers, an active hive, or a source of pollen, your regeneration is enhanced by the environment. In this case, you also gain 1d8 temporary hit points in addition to the healing.
