Homebrew Arisen Skeleton Species Details
Arisen Skeletons can take any shape, and any size, of something that died and was brought back through magical means. These skeletons populate dungeon halls, but are entrusted with more power than the ordinary brought-back corpse.
Your Arisen Skeleton could be a Lich's second hand cadaver before that lich died, a skeleton guarding a dungeon until a group of adventurers convinced it to leave its post, or anything you can think of. The sky is the limit, and six feet under is the minimum.

Guard Duty |
You were animated to patrol, guard, ambush, or otherwise assail adventurers. Gain proficiency in martial weapons if you do not already have it. Taking Necrotic damage for the first time after a long rest charges your Compound Fracture. Using a Bonus Action, expend Compound Fracture to cause your next weapon attack to explode into bony shrapnel. Proficiency-bonus-d4 Necrotic damage in a 3x3x3 cube around the target. After your first use, requires taking 2 instances of Necrotic damage to charge. At 5th level, increase damage to a d6. At 9th level, increase damage to a d8. At 13th level, increase damage to a d10. At 17th level increase damage to a d12. |

Scholarly Duty |
You were animated to perform scholarly duties, from studying ancient tomes, to copying spell scrolls. Gain proficiency in Arcana. You may substitute the damage of any spell, which is half (rounding up) of your proficiency bonus + 1 in level, with Necrotic damage. Cantrips remain unaffected. |
|
Vagabond |
Gain proficiency in perception. When using a new dash action, No Mans Land, create a line of difficult terrain five feet wide across your entire path. You may select creatures to be unaffected. Lasts until the start of your next turn. At level 7, trail heals you equal to half the amount of movement creatures spend walking through it (for example, someone crossing only five feet would expend ten feet of movement, and heal the Vagabond five health) At level 13, your trail heals the full amount of movement creatures expend, and sets the creatures speed to zero after they exit the trail until the end of their next turn. |
