Homebrew Corvidae Species Details

The corvidae emerged as a peculiar manifestation in Eastern Europe, particularly in and around the Kingdom of Hungary. The nation's young King, Matthias Corvinus, was reputedly visited by a large raven which bore in its beak a golden ring.  Upon wearing the ring, the young king slowly transformed into a humanoid corvid. After the king had worn the ring, more and more children in the region mutated into this new form.

While some corvidae have emerged elsewhere, the Kingdom of Hungary remains the single, largest concentration of this new species.

The Corvidae stand between 4' and 5'6" tall with lightweight frames comparable to their fully avian kin.  The heaviest of the corvidae is approximately 80 pounds. They are typically covered in black or very dark blue feathers which provide them with admirable thermal and water repellant properties. A small percentage of the corvidae have yellow beaks though black beaks are most common among their kind.

Corvidae Traits

As a corvidae you will have the follow traits and abilities:

Creature Type

Humanoid

Size

Medium or Small (4 - 5'6" tall)

Speed

30 feet

Mimicry

As a corvidae, you have the extraordinary ability to mimic the voice or sounds that you hear.  If you spend 1 minute in observation of a sound, you are able to replicate that voice or sound with near perfect imitation. Attempts to discern the falsehood of your efforts require a WIS Insight check DC 15.

Short Hop

Though corvidae are notably flightless in nature, they make good use of their powerful legs and lightweight frame to make impressive jumps.  Your Standing and Long Jump distance is three (3) times greater than normal for a character of your strength.

Natural Weapons

Due to their powerful beak and sharp talons, corvidae are capable of dealing unarmed damage with their natural weapons. As an Attack or Bonus action, a corvidae can make a single melee attack for 1d4 + STR or DEX bonus piercing damage. This replaces the normal rules for unarmed attack.
