Homebrew Corax (Shapeshifting Ravenfolk) Species Details

Corax are agile, intelligent shapeshifters who walk the world in two forms—humanoid and great raven. In their human guise, they are often tall and lean with piercing eyes, feathered cloaks, and a faint air of otherworldly grace. In raven form, they become massive winged predators with black feathers that drink in the light. Their culture values memory, omens, and the balance between truth and secrecy. Some serve as guides or spies, others as solitary wanderers bound by cryptic vows.

Legends say the first Corax were shaped by the gods of wind and shadow to carry messages between realms. In battle, they descend from the sky with lethal precision, and in times of peace, they watch from afar, speaking little but seeing much.

Corax (Shapeshifting Ravenfolk) Traits

As a Corax, you are a shapeshifting ravenfolk bound to the wind and shadow. Your form is as fluid as the skies you command, and your keen eyes miss nothing from horizon to horizon. You can shift between your humanoid body and the form of a great raven, gaining flight and heightened senses. Your voice can mimic sounds and speech, your talons strike with precision, and your mind is as sharp as your beak.

Veilborne Grace

When an enemy misses you with an attack, you can use your reaction to slip two steps into the Veil, moving up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. You can also squeeze through spaces as if you were one size smaller, and standing up from prone costs you no movement. Your balance is uncanny, granting advantage on saving throws or ability checks made to resist being knocked prone.

Sky-Hunter Talons

Your talons are curved, obsidian-sharp natural weapons. When you hit with them, they deal 1d6 slashing damage plus your Strength or Dexterity modifier. You are proficient with talon attacks, and they can be used as part of an unarmed strike. When striking in flight, you can add +2 to the attack’s damage once per turn.

Tongue of the Corvid

You can speak, read, and write Common and Corvish, a sharp, echoing tongue of caws, rattles, and whispered cadence.

Darkvision

our eyes are attuned to moonlight and shadow. You can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light, perceiving only shades of gray.

Keen Sight

Your raven eyes pick up subtle movement and glimmers of detail others miss. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Voice of Echoes

You can mimic simple sounds you’ve heard, such as whispers, animal calls, or the clink of coins. A creature that hears the sound can tell it’s an imitation with a successful Insight check (DC = 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus).

Shadow Glide

In dim light or darkness, you can fold into the shadow between heartbeats and appear up to 15 feet away in an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Star-Touched Agility

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
