Homebrew Assimar Exp. 3.0 Species Details
Undead Half-Vampire Aasimar
You were once a living aasimar touched by celestial grace, but fate turned dark, and now you walk the line between life and undeath.
Lore
Whereas tieflings have fiendish blood in their veins, and aasimar are descendants of celestial beings, this rare variant carries the tragic legacy of both divine light and undeath. Once a living aasimar, you were transformed into an undead creature—not born a vampire, but made one by dark forces or a terrible curse.
Your pale, almost luminous skin carries the cold stillness of death, and your eyes glow with an eerie light betraying your cursed nature. Though your heart no longer beats, a fragment of your celestial soul endures, driving you to resist the darkness within.
Haunted by your transformation, you walk among the living as a revenant—neither fully alive nor wholly dead. You may seek redemption, vengeance, or power, but your existence is a tragic collision of light and shadow.
Racial Traits
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. Like other aasimar, you mature at the same rate as humans but do not age normally after your transformation. You do not suffer the effects of aging and can live indefinitely unless destroyed.
Alignment. You tend toward neutrality or chaos due to your conflicted nature, torn between your celestial heritage and your undead curse.
Size. Medium. You have the size of a typical human.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. Thanks to your undead nature, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Undead Resilience. You have resistance to necrotic damage and poison damage, and you are immune to disease.
Vampiric Bite (Scaling).
You have a natural weapon in the form of a bite. This melee weapon attack deals piercing and necrotic damage and heals you when it hits. The damage increases as you gain levels:
-
Levels 1–4: 1d6 piercing + 1d4 necrotic damage.
-
Levels 5–10: 1d6 piercing + 1d6 necrotic damage.
-
Levels 11–16: 1d8 piercing + 1d6 necrotic damage.
-
Levels 17+: 1d8 piercing + 1d8 necrotic damage.
When you hit a creature with this bite, you regain hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt. You can use this bite once per short or long rest.
Vampiric Glimmer (Reflavored Light Bearer).
You know the Mage Hand cantrip, but it appears as a swirling shadowy mist rather than a spectral hand. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip.
Darkness Soul. You know the Thaumaturgy cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast Darkness once per long rest. At 5th level, you can cast Shadow Step (or Misty Step reflavored as a shadow teleport) once per long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Necrotic Shroud (Reflavored).
Starting at 3rd level, as an action, you can unleash your vampiric aura of dread. For 1 minute, once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack, you can cause the target to become frightened until the end of your next turn. While the aura is active, shadowy, leathery bat-like wings of darkness unfurl from your back, and you can see normally in magical darkness.
You can use this ability once per long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this effect.
Undead Nature. You do not need to breathe, eat, or drink.
Vampiric Speed. While in dim light or darkness, your walking speed increases by 10 feet.
Sunlight Weakness. When you are in direct sunlight, you have disadvantage on Constitution saving throws.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Celestial.
