Homebrew Bearborn v2 Species Details

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 80 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Long-Limbed

When you make a melee attack on your turn, your reach for it is 5 feet greater than normal.

Stealthy Hunter

You have expertise in the Stealth skill.

Draconic Surge (Roll a d3.)
1 — Breath Weapon
You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. The damage type matches your draconic ancestry (fire, cold, lightning, acid, or poison). The breath weapon is a 15-foot cone or 30-foot line (your choice each time you use it). Creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus), taking 2d10 damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. You can use this feature once per short or long rest.

2 — Draconic Hide
While not wearing armor, your AC equals 14 + your Constitution modifier. You can still use a shield.

3 — Elemental Immunity
You gain immunity to the damage type of your draconic ancestry.

Blindsight

Starting at level 8, you gain blindsight out to 25 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic, and Goblin.

Balance Note:
• A Large-sized PC with 50 ft. fly speed at level 1 and an immunity option is extremely powerful, even by homebrew standards. This is closer to “monster character” territory than standard 5e balance.
• In official D&D, Large player characters are rare because size affects grappling, reach, carrying capacity, and space occupation in battle. You’ll take up a 10×10 foot space instead of 5×5.
• Some DMs will require “Large” to be downgraded to “treat as Medium for gear and movement” to avoid major gameplay issues.

Bearborn v2 Traits

The combination of bugbear ferocity and draconic majesty makes you a towering predator, equally at home stalking through forests or soaring above mountains. You possess the brute strength of a goblinoid warlord, the keen senses of a dragon, and a primal presence that inspires awe or fear. Your draconic blood gifts you with powerful wings, an unpredictable surge of supernatural might, and a lifespan stretching across centuries. Whether raiding from the skies or stalking prey from the shadows, you are a force of nature that few dare to challenge. ⸻ That blurb would appear right above the bullet list of your racial features in D&D Beyond, tying flavor to mechanics without repeating the detailed description.

Alignment

Alignment Tendencies
• Many lean toward Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil due to their predatory nature and disdain for authority that isn’t earned through strength.
• Those still bound to draconic patrons often follow Lawful Evil or Lawful Neutral paths, adhering to strict codes imposed by their masters.

Size

Draconic Bugbears are towering, muscle-bound figures averaging between 9 and 11 feet in height, their hulking forms covered in a mix of coarse fur and patches of iridescent scales that shimmer in the light. Their faces retain the feral goblinoid shape of a bugbear, but their eyes glint with a reptilian gleam — slit pupils that seem to pierce the dark. Your size is Large.
