Homebrew Tibbit Species Details

Tibbits (also known as catweres) are small, humanoid creatures that have the ability to turn into a common house cat. They arose from felines kept as familiars in ages past. The powerful magic that allows a familiar to gain intelligence nad magic abilities slowly filtered from one generation of cats to the next. Whether tibbits evolved from a natural process, divine intervention or a sudden surge in the magic running through their ancestry, none can say. Tibbits have never existed in large numbers, and their tendency to spread across the world leaves them with a fractured, incomplete racial history.

Tibbit Traits

Tibbits are the were-cat descendants of magically endowed feline familiars who, through generations, have developed the ability to shift between cat and humanoid forms.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.

Darkvision

Like their feline cousins, tibbits are nocturnal hunters at heart, and retained their hereditary nightvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey.

Nimble

Tibbits share an uncanny agility, even in their humanoid form. You gain proficiency in the Acrobatics skill.

Feline Transformation

At will, as an action, a tibbit can transform into a house cat. A tibbit can transform from a cat back to her humanoid form as an action. She must wait 1 hour to turn back into a cat after reverting to her humanoid form. This effect functions similarly to the Polymorph spell, except as described below:

• In cat form, the tibbit becomes size Tiny and can fit in much smaller spaces. In this form, she gains Advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and gains a +10 bonus to her land speed. A tibbit in cat form suffers -8 to strength (minimum 3) but gains +2 to Dexterity.
• A tibbit gains natural claw attacks in her feline form. A tibbit's claws deal 1d2 points of damage and have the Finesse and Light weapon properties.
• The transformation lasts as long as the tibbit wishes it to, but she must wait 1 hour to turn back into a cat after reverting to her humanoid form.
• When in cat form, a tibbit gains advantage on all Wisdom (Perception) checks that can make use of her keen sense of smell.
• Any spell that reveals the true nature under the effects of Polymorph shows the truth behind a tibbit's guise. Spells that reveal magic auras but do not penetrate a Polymorph spell reveal nothing about a tibbit in cat form.
• Aside from the changes noted here, a tibbit's abilities and game statistics remain the same. Note that anyone spotting a tibbit in cat form has a difficult time recognising the feline as a tibbit.

Feline Speech

Tibbits gain Feline as an automatic language. The Feline language is spoken by all tibbits and magical felines, allowing a tibbit to use the Persuasion skill against such felines. This language can not be learnt by other races, nor can they use spells to communicate in it.

Languages

You can speak, read and write in Common and one other language of your choice when in your humanoid form. You can always speak in Feline, but it has no written form.
