Homebrew Thysari Species Details

The Thysari are an insectoid people whose forms blur the line between humanoid and arthropod. Their bodies are slender and upright, yet marked by the undeniable touch of the swarm: chitinous plates instead of skin, multifaceted eyes, twitching antennae, delicate or serrated limbs, and in some bloodlines, wings that glimmer in moonlight. Though alien in appearance, the Thysari carry a culture as deep and intricate as the hive tunnels they once called home.

Thysari Traits

Thysari are a people shaped by the marvels of the insect world, their bodies and senses reflecting the remarkable adaptations of bugs. From chitinous armor to multifaceted vision and keen awareness of their surroundings, they carry the resilience, precision, and instincts of the creatures that inspire them.

Hive Mind

All Thysari possess a subtle psychic link, transmitted through faint vibrations of their antennae. This connection allows them to share thoughts and impressions without sound, a trait that keeps their clusters tightly knit.

  • You can communicate telepathically with any Thysari within 30 feet of you. The target must share a language with you to understand the message. Unlike the message cantrip, this does not require gestures or pointing. Communication is instantaneous and silent, carrying both words and subtle emotional tones.
  • You can also project a one-way “signal” to non-Thysari creatures within 15 feet, though they cannot respond mentally. The message is often perceived as a faint hum, tickle, or whisper in the mind.

Luminous Flare

Many Thysari carry natural bioluminescence within their wings, carapace, or skin. This glow serves as both communication and protection, dazzling predators or guiding allies through darkness.

  • You can emit faint bioluminescence from your wings or body, shedding bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. You can activate or suppress this glow at will.
  • Once per long rest, you can unleash this light in a sudden flare. Each hostile creature within 10 feet must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or be blinded until the start of your next turn.

Cocoon

During a short rest, you may enter a cocoon-like trance. Wrapping yourself in webs, silk, layers of chitinous, or a hardened husk. When you do, roll an additional 1d8 dice and add it to the total Hit Points restored during that rest.
