Homebrew Cenobite Species Details

Appearance: Cenobites are humanoid creatures with bodies modified by the intervention of their god, Leviathan. They have pale skin marked with ritualistic scars, eyes that are entirely pitch black, resembling the hell they came from. And their clothes, made from their own flesh, cut into grotesque shapes. Their bodies have devices embedded in them and are covered in marks that reflect their connection to suffering.

Culture: Cenobites live in a hierarchical society, where their supreme god is Leviathan, followed by their highest-ranking Cenobite, the High Priest of Hell, the most powerful and experienced of all Cenobites and right-hand to their god. Cenobite culture centers around the pursuit of new horizons in sensations, blurring the thin line between pleasure and suffering. They experiment with human flesh and spirit. The Cenobites believe that pain and suffering are the key to accessing enlightenment and being closer to their god.

History: Cenobites originate from the Labyrinthine Hell, where pain and suffering are the currency. Some consider them angels, while others see them as demons. They were created after completing the configuration of the lament and being judged by the High Priest of Hell. They are beings that seek to experiment with the limits of human flesh and spirit sensations. Through rituals and sacrifices, Cenobites undergo a transformation that allows them to access dark and terrible powers.

As the agony flows from their flesh to yours, you feel the wounds of others become the balm for your own. The suffering of another becomes the currency of your salvation. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your ability modifier (minimum 1 time) per short or long rest.

Ecstasy of Suffering
