Homebrew Bugling Species Details

Buglings are a recently-discovered code that currently are only known to spawn from fixing a "bug". Bugs are monsters summoned by Malware-wielders, and tend to fizzle out after creation; however, if a bug is modified and reverted to larvae before it fizzles out, it'll rapidly grow into a bugling. Many buglings are confused and still learning about the world around them; it's very rare to encounter a bugling that wasn't created recently. Due to their origins related to malware, they have the trait "fiendish legacy".

A Bugling chooses whether to embrace or lament their fiendish legacy. The three legacies are described below.

Insecta

Insectas are the most common bugling legacy. They can resemble ladybugs, bumblebees, ants, beetles, anything that falls under "insect". As an example, lepidoptera buglings resemble moths/butterflies, often having antennae, wings, long tongues, and fuzzy bodies.

Arachnid

Arachnids are less common than insecta, and are larger in stature. They typically resemble spiders, tarantulas, and scorpions, possessing large claws, talons, and tails/abdoments.

Pulmonata

Pulmonata origin buglings only come from a bug that produced lag. These buglings have squishy skin, false eyes on their face (their real eyes are on their antennae), big squishy tails, and sometimes shells that improve your defense.

Bugling Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid

As a bugling, you have the following special traits.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Fiendish Legacy

You are the recipient of a legacy that grants you supernatural abilities. Choose a legacy from the Fiendish Legacies table. You gain the level 1 benefit of the chosen legacy.

When you reach character levels 3 and 5, you learn a higher-level spell, as shown on the table. You always have that spell prepared. You can cast it once without a spell slot, and you regain the ability to cast it in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the spells you cast with this trait (choose the ability when you select the legacy).
