Homebrew Arachnith Species Details
Although Arachniths can originate from any humanoid race, they usually come from the mid-sized creatures such as humans, elves, and even sometimes dark elves and giants. The Arachniths are social outcasts, usually being required to hide their special features such as fangs that extend from their lower jaws, and multiple eyes covering their faces, but tend to stick with other races that fall in the same category. villages of arachniths are not uncommon in dryer environments, meaning deserts are home to many small communities of this species. there are many sub-species that fall under the blanket name "Arachniths," usually divided by the extent of the mutation, and sometimes by the type of mutations.
Scorpiones.
The Scorpiones family of Arachniths have features similar to the arachnid species the scorpion, inspiring the name Scorpiones. the people that are unfortunate enough to contract the disease usually only harbor some traits of the Scorpiones, including but not limited to;
- small, claw-like hands protruding from under their shoulders
- a scorpion tail, usually only useful for stabbing
- hard, keratin-like shell forming over their skin
- many more eyes, sometimes reaching up to twelve, never anymore than 14
- cravings for insects, like spiders, crickets, roaches, and even beetles
- cravings for small vertebrates like lizards, snakes, and mice
Araneae.
The Araneae family of Arachnith have features similar to many different species of spiders. primarily showing traits closest to the Lycosidae, or wolf spiders, they can also inherit traits from other spider species like Goliath Birdeaters, Black Widows, Orb Weavers, Tarantula, Recluse spiders, and even the famed huntsman. due to the variety of traits shown, these are the most common type of Arachniths, which has also resulted in the most features shown by far, such as;
- spider like legs, and anywhere from 4 - 8 of them (this is one of the results that can only be shown from being born with this mutation)
- bulbus silk sac (this is also one of the results that can only be show from being born an Arachnith)
- multiple eyes, usually adding up to 8
- shedding, or "molting" skin
- hair growing in more places than usual
- fangs replacing or being alongside the usual teeth
- unique patterns on skin
- protrusions on the body, sometimes resulting in a crown-like appearance on the cranial region, otherwise resulting in flat, smooth regions
- strong aversion to cinnamon, citrus, peppermint, and eucalyptus
- cravings for common insects like moths, spiders, ants, and sometimes small birds (usually similar to the spider species they seem to originate from)
- they can also crave meat from lesser developed humanoids like goblins, orcs, or even sometimes species seen as "less than," like the drow and duergar
Ixodida.
The Ixodida family of Arachnith exhibit features most similar to the common dog tick, but sometimes exhibit other rarer tick traits, like from the "soft tick," like it's thick, leathery white skin. The Ixodida family is also the rarest family, and usually exhibit the fewest traits. Although they are less common, they are also the most dangerous due to their aversion to solid food, typically resulting in a constant strong craving for human and elf blood.
- long extendable molars used for probing and extracting blood from incapacitated creatures
- strong thick legs used for higher jumping
- strong craving for blood, usually preferring cleaner, more "sophisticated," creatures blood, such as humans and elves. this also means they feed on many humanoids, as they prefer this over other creatures like animals or beasts. In addition to this trait, they have a slight aversion to solid food, meaning they could sustain themselves with it if needed.
