Homebrew Chakat Species Details
Chakats are a tauric, feline species blending the form of a great cat with the torso and arms of a humanoid. They are known for their agility, keen senses, and deep empathy, often serving as scouts, mediators, or protectors. Though their powerful lower body grants them impressive speed and stamina, their feline grace makes them equally capable in climbing and swimming.
Culturally, Chakats value harmony and community, seeking balance between nature and civilization. Their empathetic instincts and strong bonds with others make them natural companions on adventures, while their survival skills and adaptability allow them to thrive in the wild.
For game purposes, Chakats are treated as Medium creatures despite their tauric build, occupying the same space as a humanoid. They are not Tabaxi, though they share feline ancestry, and their unique tauric form should be considered when describing their movement, equipment use, or roleplay.

Your tail is long, thickly muscled, and prehensile, averaging about 1.5 meters in length by adulthood. It serves many purposes: it braces and anchors your body, counterbalances your torso, and is strong enough to support your weight briefly or hold moderately sized objects. In combat, it can be used as a surprise weapon, though its lack of gripping surface makes it unsuited for wielding tools or delicate tasks. The tail can hold or carry items up to 15 pounds and can grant advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks made to balance or resist being knocked prone.
Your tail is also highly expressive, often conveying your mood or emotions. Among chakats, entwining tails is a sign of deep trust and intimacy. With age, a chakat’s tail continues to grow, and those with the longest tails are accorded the respectful title of Longtail.
Hybrid Vigor
Your hybrid physiology grants you greater resilience. You have advantage on saving throws against disease, and whenever you roll Hit Dice to regain hit points during a short rest, you may reroll one die and take the higher result.
In addition, minor injuries such as lost digits or superficial scars eventually heal over time. Regenerating major limbs is possible only with the aid of magic or advanced healing, though your natural resilience speeds this process. Your ever-growing tail is a subtle sign of this regenerative ability at work.

Chakats mature at a pace similar to humans, reaching adulthood in their late teens. Thanks to their hybrid physiology, they can live for up to a century and a half.

Your fur shifts between thick winter and thinner summer phases. However, you are less comfortable in extreme heat and may require extra water or rest at the DM's discretion.

Dual Hearts
Your dual hearts allow you to endure otherwise fatal injuries. When you drop to 0 hit points but are not killed outright, you may instead drop to 1 hit point. You cannot use this trait again until you finish a long rest.
Balanced Psyche
Your harmonized nature grants you stability in thought and feeling. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.
Resilient Longevity
Chakats remain vigorous and healthy well into their second century, with most only showing signs of age after 120 years. Though their bodies eventually slow, they are spared many of the infirmities that plague other species, allowing them to remain active until close to the end of their lives. Elders, called Longtails, are deeply respected in Chakat society.
