Homebrew Darkfallen Species Details

Darkfallen, are Eladrin or High Elves that have died. Upon their deathbed they have made a deal with their deity, be it good or evil for prolonged life. Upon their deaths, the diety has "resurrected" them into a form of undeath.

Darkfallen resemble their living selves, however they have a greyish / blue tinge to their skin and  their eyes shine with pale blue light. On closer inspection it is noted that they do not breath or have a heartbeat. Darkfallen are proficient magic users and can wield not only the magics that they specialized in before death but also necromancy and blood magics.

Darkfallen, believe that they have an unfinished task or goal that they were unable to complete in their life and as such their undeath can allow them more time to complete this goal.

Given that High elves and Eladrin live to multiple hundreds of years old, Becoming a Darkfallen offers opportunities to extend their knowledge and abilities well beyond the mortal constraints of life. This endless undeath that they choose however comes at the cost of raw emotion, leaving Darkfallen devoid of what mortals call "feelings". However it also creates a sense of purpose and focus that allows for highly developed intelligence, wisdom, reasoning, planning and foresight.

Darkfallen are keenly effected by radiant damage, Even if their chosen deity was a radiant god. They are able to be damaged by most damage types, only being resistant to necrotic damage. Upon the loss of all their health however a Darkfallen falls into a deep "death slumber" for 2d12 days. If they had holy water poured over their body while in this form they die permanently. A revivify spell however can revive a Darkfallen prematurely from "Death slumber".

When they made their bargain with their Deity, Darkfallen signed a "contract in stone' and treasure this tablet as their most precious possession. Their Deity may have various reasons to provide this service and contract, be it that they want them as an agent, to gain followers, to research particular magics or paths or just to "mess with" another deity. However if this tablet is broken, the Darkfallen will crumble to dust.
