Homebrew Aarakocra of Calderon Species Details

Aaracokra in Calderon have recently begun to diversify, which has also led to the theory of how closely related they are to the Kenku and Owlin.

Aarakocra of Calderon Traits

As an aarakocra, you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others. Each different Aaracokra subspecies has it's own unique effect related to its physiology.

Age

Aarakocra reach maturity by age 3. Compared to humans, aarakocra don’t usually live longer than 30 years.

Alignment

Most aarakocra are good and rarely choose sides when it comes to law and chaos. Tribal leaders and warriors might be lawful, while explorers and adventurers might tend toward chaotic.

Size

Aarakocra are about 5 feet tall. They have thin, lightweight bodies that weigh between 80 and 100 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You also have a fly speed equal to your walking speed.

Flight

To use your fly speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Talons

Your talons are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Wind Caller

You know the gust cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the gust of wind spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast the spell with this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of 2nd level or higher.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for when you cast gust of wind with this trait (choose when you select this species).

Plumage

The plumage of your Aarakocra gives you a unique ability. As well as this, your character may look like or look similar to the bird you choose. All these plumages represent birds from the real world and all come with a new proficiency.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for your character.
