Homebrew Atlazir Species Details
The Atlazir are a secretive race of moth-like people with an ability to predict doom and disaster. They are loathed among the commonfolk and chased out of towns and cities for being bad omens, often blamed for the disasters they predict.
The Atlazir live in secluded, hidden villages at the very edges of civilization, but despite their best efforts, their settlements are often attacked by neighboring cities immediately following natural disasters that befall the region.
In times of turmoil, people of status and influence might have an Atlazir captured to use for their predictions. This is done in utmost secrecy, as deliberately bringing one of these harbingers of doom into one’s city is considered taboo.
These strange humanoids vary in size and are covered in a thin layer of fur-like plumage that grows thick around their neck and chest, as well as their forearms and shins. Their limbs are long and thin, and their eyes are large and pupilless, with common colors being black and red. They also have moth-like antennae on their heads, which are said to help them predict danger.
Their most striking feature are their large moth-wings, enchanted to grant them the gift of flight. These wings vary greatly in size, color and pattern, often denoting different family lines among the Atlazir. These magically-enhanced, beautiful wings are a highly coveted trophy to those who hunt the Atlazir, and are sold for small fortunes on black markets to be studied by mages or mounted on walls.
