Homebrew Wukong - The Great Sage - Heaven's Equal Species Details

Stances

As Wukong, you have access to different stances regardless of which weapon you wield. You can change stance as a Bonus Action. Each stance grants different abilities.

Smash Stance
A highly offensive stance that allows Wukong to punish larger groups of enemies.

  • While in this stance, Wukong’s basic attacks affect all creatures within 5 feet of his target, but his weapon damage die is reduced by one step (1d6 → 1d4).
  • All of Wukong’s attacks deal bludgeoning damage.
  • Wukong has advantage on attacks that involve smashing (such as leaping down vertically when attacking).

Pillar Stance
A defensive stance that lets Wukong keep his distance and create openings.

  • Wukong’s reach increases by 5 feet.
  • As a Reaction, once per day, Wukong can summon a spectral staff beneath him, lifting him 5 feet upward. This increases his AC by 5 until the start of his next turn.

Thrust Stance
An offensive stance for punishing single targets and forcing them back.

  • Wukong can create a spectral staff that extends toward one target. On a hit, the attack deals 2d12 + Dexterity modifier damage. This can be used twice per day. The spectral staff disappears after 1 round or when the attack succeeds.
  • Once per day, Wukong can use the spectral staff to shove a target 10 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be pushed back.

Mystic Abilities

Halt (1/day)
Wukong commands a creature to halt. The target must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or be paralyzed until the end of its next turn.

Circle of Flames (1/day)
Wukong summons a circle of fire with a 10-foot radius centered on himself. The ring lasts for a number of rounds equal to his Wisdom modifier. All creatures inside are healed for 1d10 + Wisdom modifier at the start of their turns. Requires concentration.

Cloud Step (2/day)
Wukong dashes 10 feet and becomes invisible until the start of his next turn. He also creates an identical copy of himself that mimics his attacks but cannot deal damage or move. The copy has 10 hit points and vanishes after 1 turn or when reduced to 0 hit points. Wukong’s first attack after becoming invisible counts as a surprise attack.

1 to 10 (1/day)
Wukong channels briefly and creates 9 copies of himself. The copies mimic his actions and movement but cannot use abilities. Each copy has 1 hit point. They provoke opportunity attacks when entering an enemy’s reach. They act as a group on the initiative directly after Wukong. Copies last 2 turns or until destroyed.

Thunder Slam (2/day)
Wukong drives his weapon into the ground, summoning a spectral staff that launches him 5 meters high. He then slams down, dealing 3d10 + Dexterity modifier thunder damage in a 10-foot radius. The staff vanishes after the attack or at the end of 1 round.

Rock Solid (Concentration)
Wukong hardens his skin like stone. While this state lasts, he is resistant to fire, cold, slashing, and piercing damage, and gains +2 AC. This lasts a number of rounds equal to his Wisdom modifier.

Greater than Death (Passive)
Wukong possesses a tremendous inner power that refuses death. If slain, he can return to life with full hit points 1 round after falling. This requires consuming a rare immortality brew crafted from impossible ingredients. Each resurrection costs 1,000 gp in materials, consumed on use.

Special Attacks (1/day)

Before performing a Special Attack, Wukong rolls 1d6. The result determines which technique he unleashes.

1–2: Godburner
Wukong leaps 5 feet and channels his spectral staff in roaring flames. He slams it down in a 15-foot area, dealing 4d8 + Dexterity modifier fire damage. The scorched ground becomes difficult terrain.

3–4: Divine Rage
Wukong spins his weapon with thunderous force, pulling creatures toward him. All creatures within 15 feet must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be pulled 5 feet closer. Creatures within 10 feet take 3d10 + Wisdom modifier thunder damage.

5–6: Thousand Spears
Wukong leaps to a creature within 15 feet and stabs. He then conjures thousands of spectral spears that pierce the target, dealing 8d4 + Wisdom modifier piercing damage.
