Homebrew Waspfolk Species Details
Waspfolk are small, winged fey creatures with sharp tempers and sharper stingers. Unlike the more whimsical fairies of storybooks, Waspfolk are grizzled, stubborn, and buzzing with restless energy. Their bodies are chitinous and striped, with barbed stingers jutting from their abdomens and delicate insect wings that shimmer in the light. Many have oddly humanoid faces, often wrinkled or weathered, with grumpy expressions that suggest they’ve seen too much of the world already.
A typical Waspfolk might wear strange, mismatched clothing stolen from travelers — waistcoats, hats, or even boots tailored to their tiny size. Some affect eccentric styles, such as top hats or cigars, as if mocking mortal fashions.
Waspfolk culture values persistence, stubbornness, and the swarm. To cross one is to invite buzzing vengeance, and many take pride in making larger folk flinch and swat helplessly as they dart in and out of reach. Their Fey magic often manifests as glowing venomous sparks, the dazzling haze of a swarm, or the swelling surge of wasp fury.
Where pixies and sprites embody mischief and playfulness, Waspfolk embody irritation, persistence, and grit. They’re survivors, warriors, and pests all at once — and they’ll remind you of it with every sting.
