Homebrew Anastaryn [Final Version] Species Details

It was said that the Anastaryns were re-created from the souls of those who did not gain closure in their first lives being put into vessels which the Infant God forged under the peaks of mount Anaster. To their God, this second life was a blessing, a second chance to settle their affairs or forge a new life amongst their peers. In reality, the Infant God’s forging process was less than perfect, leading to many Anastaryns having physical scars and imperfections, or not being made of organic materials in the first place. As well as this, they often do not have memories of their old lives, only getting faint glimpses and feelings.

Despite this however, many Anastaryns chose to embrace their new un-life, forming communities and forging new bonds particularly around the misty tops of mount Anaster. Where they assist the living find shelter in their travels and the undead find peace to the afterlife.

Forms of Rebirth: Thalys’s “gift” of Re-life comes in many forms. The Anastaryn’s forms of Rebirth table provides suggestions for how your character may look like as they enter their second life:

1d6      Forms

  1. Your body is stitched together from mismatched pieces. When you rest, glimpses of multiple individual’s memories flashes through your mind.
  2. You wake up to find yourself in a body resembling a puppet, only instead of wood or clay your body parts were carved from bone.
  3. One or two of your limbs appears ghostly and translucent, the bones faintly visible underneath
  4. Your body is ghastly pale; a dark ring permanently etched around your sunken eyes. With each exhale, a faint smoke like vapor curls from your lips.
  5. Your skin has turned an ashy grey and you hear the ticking of a clock in the place of your heart
  6. Hairline cracks split your flesh, and from them sprout faintly glowing blossoms and no matter how much you trim them, they keep growing back.

In addition, you have advantage on any Charisma (Persuasion) and Wisdom (Insight & Perception) checks you make that involves talking with the undead.

  • Boon of the teacher, you choose to take the role of a mentor in your second life. When an ally within 30 feet of you fails an ability check you can use your reaction to give them words of wisdom. Roll a 1d4 and add the number rolled to the ability check. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus and regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
