Physical Description.
The Vraahl stand between 7 and 9 feet tall, their forms lithe and predatory. Their wings are vast and veined with molten streaks of ember, their feathers fading from white to soot-black at the tips. Bearded vulture features dominate their visage — a bone-pale beak and “beard” of glowing, ember-like down — but their eyes are hollow furnaces of deep orange light. Their skin carries a faint ashen tone, and faint scales grow along the forearms and shins, often marked by intricate sigils formed naturally as if carved by wind erosion. Their bones are dark, metallic, and unnaturally dense. When they speak, it sounds like bone grinding in a gale — and every Vraahl’s voice carries faint psychic echo, unsettling even the stout-hearted.
Origins.
The Vraahl were discovered only recently within the storm-shrouded continent of Aeth’Maul, when explorers unearthed their long-buried aerie temples carved into sheer cliffs. Ancient runes inside spoke of the “Aerial Sepulchre” — a forgotten celestial order cast down from the heavens for devouring the souls of the dying under the guise of “salvation.”
It is said that their god, Kra’Voth the Red Current, was a being of wind and bone who taught them to drink the end of all things. When the celestials cast Kra’Voth out, his faithful tore out their own hearts, replacing them with blackened windstones — granting eternal life, at the cost of eternal hunger.
