Homebrew Donchadh (cousin to the Brownie) Species Details
The Donchadh are a surprising race. They are easily overlooked, and not much is expected of them. These are only two of the ways they are fooling us all. Trust my judgement in this.
- Afron Willowsong, Arcanum Biology Professor
Being Fey creatures, a close relation to Brownies, the Donchadh (done-chowd) stand just a fingerwidth taller than a gnome. They might be mistaken for a gnome, except their noses, eyes and ears are too large for their small faces. Also, their feet (usually bare) are longer than they should be for their height. They usually wear clothes made out of scraps scavenged from other clothes. Their skin has the look and texture of old and weathered leather, and their ears are almost bat like in appearance.
One of the Fey, having once lived in the Feywild, the Donchadh claim that they once had wings such as what the pixies and sprites possess. Many of them believe that in the battles between the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, these brave, small fey sacrificed their statuses as fairies by giving up their wings. They certainly are extremely brave, in spite of their small size. This, and their quick wit, will come to a surprise to anyone they meet.
The Donchadh tend to live in ways that certainly suggest that they did indeed once have wings. They are found in woodlands where they make their home in places in trees, using vines, mushrooms, and all of nature's bounty as their home and more. Most Donchadh are very capable riders of animals (smaller ones, of course). While their size limits their mobility, they more than make up for this in their courage and wit. The Donchadh will seldom back down from a fight, and they are a proud race.
They have advantage in saving throws against being charmed. Additionally, magic cannot put them to sleep. They have darkvision out to a distance of 60 feet. Their courage and loyalty give them advantage on saving throws against being frightened. They have advantage on Animal Handling checks to tame mounts and beasts of burden. More often than not, they are usually found astride a beast they have formed a close bond with.
They know the cantrip Mending. They are also proficient in leatherworker's tools. Using those tools, they can spend 1 hour with the necessary leather and materials to make a riding saddle.
Donchadh (cousin to the Brownie) Traits
A small race descended from the Fey Wild, these are the traits of their people:Fey Blood
You have advantage in saving throws against being charmed. Additionally, magic cannot put you to sleep. You have darkvision out to a distance of 60 feet. Your courage and loyalty give you advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
Beast Master
You are able to establish a telepathic link with one beast (size medium, cannot fly, challenge 0 to 1/4, and it cannot be an insect) that you would use as a mount. With this bond, while you and the beast are within line of sight of each other, the beast can understand your telepathic messages to it, and it can telepathically communicate simple emotions and concepts back to you. With this bond, the beast gains advantage on attack rolls against any creature within 5 feet of you that you can see. You can only form this bond with one animal at a time, and you will remained bonded until the creature dies, or you release it from service to you. (DM determines how this must be accomplished). You also know the Guidance cantrip, but you can only cast it upon the beast you have bonded with as your mount.
You have advantage on all Animal Handling checks with all beasts.
Size and Movement
Your size is small. You only stand just a tiny bit taller than an average gnome, just a blond hair under 3'. You weight about 25 to 30 pounds. Your walking speed is 25.
Languages
You can read, write and speak in Common and Sylvan.
