Many are the apparitions produced by a beholder’s dreams. Behelderfolk are spawned when a beholder, in its paranoia, dreams vivid dreams of the sort of adventurers who would dare threaten its peace of mind. They may closely resemble a human, elf, dwarf, orc, or other humanoid, and even wholeheartedly consider themselves a member of that species; however, behelderfolk are fundamentally a parody of what a beholder thinks an adventurer is and acts like.
As a result, behelderfolk often give off an uncanny or unnerving first impression to onlookers. They may exhibit exaggerated behavior and base their entire personality on a singular concept—such as justice, hope, or vengeance—without truly understanding what those qualities mean on a fundamental level. Noticeable, too, is their tendency toward an unbridled hatred of all beholders and similar aberrations.
Over time, a behelderfolk may develop a greater awareness of what it is and evolve beyond its initial, shallow understanding of self, either rejecting or embracing its beholder parentage. It may even begin to sprout additional eyes in strange places.
Behelderfolk (Playable Species) Traits
As an Behelderfolk, you have these special traits.Darkvision
You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
Beholder Lineage
You bear a fraction of a beholder’s power. When you reach a high enough level, a large, central eye appears on your forehead and you learn a new spell reminiscent of one of the different types of eye rays a beholder might emit. Choose a single option from the Beholder Lineage Spells table. The more powerful the spell selection, the higher your level must be before you learn the spell and your central eye will appear. After casting the spell, the central eye will close and disappear from view until the next Long Rest.
You always have that spell prepared. You can cast it once without a spell slot, and you regain the ability to cast it in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.
Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell you cast (choose the ability when you select the spell).
