Homebrew [m] Noirborn Species Details
The Noirborn are the tragic descendants of an angel—a celestial being, framed and eternally exiled to the shadowy, bleak expanse of a Purgatory Realm. The first of their kind was a young, already-damned soul—a Tiefling teen whose celestial grace was violently stripped away. Banished and abandoned, this first exile was rescued and raised in a strange confluence of darkness: under the tutelage of philosophical Necromancers and alongside the grim, aristocratic community of local Dhampirs.
This grim upbringing and the celestial trauma of their origin are etched onto every Noirborn. They are beings of contradiction: radiating a faint, haunting echo of divine light that struggles against the deep, pervasive gloom of their existence.

Scholarly Pursuit and Discipline (Lawful Neutral/Evil)
The Necromancers instilled a rigid, almost monastic discipline in the first Noirborn, a crucial counterpoint to the Tiefling's chaotic, demonic heritage and the Dhampirs' hedonistic impulses.
-
The Library of Ash: Their stronghold is typically a vast, subterranean archive known as the "Library of Ash" or the "Crypt-Academy." Here, the Noirborn lineage learned the strict formulae, geometric calculations, and precise incantations necessary to control negative energy without succumbing to madness.
-
Emphasis on Intelligence and Wisdom: Noirborn are taught to be highly analytical. They prioritize Intelligence (for research and magic) and Wisdom (for controlling the mind's descent into darkness). Emotional display is seen as a weakness that can lead to catastrophic power loss.
-
The Law of Conservation: A Noirborn of the Necromancer school would never waste an opportunity or an object. A corpse of a slain enemy is instantly analyzed for its potential use. A lost artifact is a piece of history that must be filed, not used for frivolous gain. This leads to a pragmatic, frugal, and often unnerving behavior.

You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors only as shades of gray.
Justification
1. The Dhampir Influence (The Predatory Instinct)
-
Vampiric Sight: Vampires and Dhampirs are creatures of the night. Their senses are unnaturally heightened to hunt in darkness. The standard Dhampir lineage in $D\&D$ has 60 feet of Darkvision, but given the Noirborn's unique genesis in a realm of pure shadow, enhancing this to 120 feet makes sense. It highlights the potent, predatory nature of their bloodline
Spider Climb
You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, at 3rd level, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free.
Vampiric Bite.
Your fanged bite is a natural weapon, which counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. You add your Constitution modifier to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with your bite. Your bite deals 1d4 piercing damage on a hit. While you are missing half or more of your hit points, you have advantage on attack rolls you make with this bite. When you use your bite and hit a creature that isn’t a Construct or an Undead, you can empower yourself in one of the following ways of your choice:
-
- regain hit points equal to the damage dealt by the bite
- gain a bonus to the next ability check or attack roll you make; the bonus equals the damage dealt by the bite
- You can empower yourself with your bite a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
