Homebrew Xenacaryus Species Details

Under the Piscean moon of Xelaphor'Akinyi, the Xenacaryus was born. The first of the twelve Constellational humanoid species. The Arcane Species was their given title upon their genetic formation with Pisces' own hands. They were born to be an apex predator, and a leader. The species to walk between the Nexus Weave and the Astral Plane. Xenacari are a species of few numbers, but their power precedes their struggling numbers. The Xenacaryus is a species meant to live for millions of years to come, with evolution on their side to aid their seemingly endless lifespan. What makes the Xenacaryus species a true apex and keystone of evolution is their genetic makeup. They have an extreme tolerance and connection to the Nexus Weave and it's frequencies. They like all the species on this planet can channel this Nexus Frequency within their bodies, and can use this frequency to bend elements to their whim. Xenacari are a Large class species, meaning they have quite the impressive height range from 7 to 21 feet tall. being natural predators, they have many unique traits to back them up. They sport large and long slightly curved ears that pick up on the slightest of sounds, and can use echolocation to find prey in artificially dark environments which they face frequently. They have an incredible sense of darkvision allowing them to see what most cannot in the night. They sport long, thin, yet muscular digitigrade legs that work like a springload, allowing them to jump incredible heights and push off any surface with mass amounts of force. Xenacari also developed a sort of hypnosis inducing scale pattern on the ends of their ears, that when flickered in the right light can replicate a pattern similar to the hunting style of a cuttlefish. They have a mass blend of fur, scales, skin, and feathers across their backs, allowing for them to withstand heavy blows and difficult climates, however the skin on their front side is very weak and easy to break in return. Xenacari are an all terrain species, their bodies are designed to overcome any terrain they are presented with. They have gills on their necks and along their ribs, along with two hearts to keep blood flow going with the amount of energy they exert. A typical Xenacaryus sports four wings, two smaller ones on their hips and larger, more ornate ones attached to their impressive shoulder blades. During earlier ages, the Xenacaryus' primary weapons were their jaws and massive tail, which has continued to be made of nothing but hard bone and pure muscle throughout many ages. They have not lost their unique horns, fangs, and tail ends in this time. The typical venomous fangs of a Xenacaryus are roughly four to five inches, however some Xenacari have evolved to have longer ones for ideal hallucinogenic infliction with their venom. Usual Xenacari wings consist of a gradual fade from the scales on their backs to the fur and feathers, however some have a more pronounced top lining of scales and a thin membrane structure similar to a bat's at the end of their wings instead. Like all species on this planet, each Xenacaryus has a unique amount of antennae and shape to these antennae, same with the catch connective membranes on their body that are translucent and show off the glowing Nexus fluid pumping through their bodies. This tissue is also seen on the jaws of their faces, which are nerveless yet strong enough to hold their jaw together when it is not unhinged like a snake's.

Xenacaryus Traits

Constellatory Heritage

Echolocation

Given their incredibly large ears, the Xenacaryus is extremely sensitive to sound. An alert Xenacaryus is able to detect movement by using echolocation for anything up to 400 feet away. It is used as a perception check and grants a 1d4 of initiative to your next encounter.

Hallucinogenic Venom

Being the apex of evolution, the Xenacari are naturally venomous and produce a hallucinogenic venom to confuse their prey. Since they produce this venom and use it for fun, they are immune to the harmful effects of it. This venom deals 1d8 of psychic and 1d6 of poison damage to prey when inhaled. This effects a 360 range of 40 feet and afflicts enemies with confusion and poisoned effects. As they grow this venom becomes more potent, and confusing. So you add 1d4 of psychic damage and poison damage every 10 levels, along with 10 more feet to the range of the cloud.

Water Breathing

Xenacari have gills, meaning they can breathe underwater just fine.

Soft Bellied

While Xenacari have a naturally strong overcoat of scales, they are easy to harm on their front side where their soft skin lay exposed. Without armor protecting it, the skin is easy to tear.

Bite

Xenacari used to hunt without magic, and throughout the years they've kept their sharp teeth, allowing them to have a different form of an unarmed strike.

Bone Tail

Xenacari evolved massive boney structures on the end of their tails, not only as counterweights for their heavy upper bodies and slim legs, but to use to bludgeon their prey to death.

Nexus Flux

Allows the Xenacaryus to refill all spell slots using it's internal Nexus fluid.

Echo Sensitivity

While Xenacari have their evolutionary advantages, sometimes they backfire horribly on them. While they are able to use echolocation, they are extremely sound sensitive and any high pitched or loud sounds that emit from within a mile of their sensitive ears, it can knock them prone or even unconcious.

Hypersensitivty

While Xenacari may be able to pick up sound and movement better because of their antennae, it also makes them incredibly sensitive to the cold and heat. That along with their half protected bodies.

Hypnosis

Xenacaryus is a species of flamboyance, and the display they put on to distract you from something or draw you in is no different. The scales on their ears reflect in such a way as to charm a person into a psychic state of suggestion.
