Homebrew Cougar tabaxi Species Details

Culture & Naming Traditions

Cougar Tabaxi live in small, scattered clans across mountain ranges, high forests, and wild borderlands. Unlike their jungle kin who thrive in bustling villages, Cougar Tabaxi prefer quiet, solitude, and open space. They are patient hunters and fierce protectors of their territory, and they value strength, cunning, and endurance above material wealth.

While jungle Tabaxi are known for their endless curiosity, Cougar Tabaxi are known for their focus. They may still pursue knowledge, stories, or treasures, but only if such quests serve their goals of survival, honor, or the thrill of the hunt.

Names

Cougar Tabaxi names follow the same tradition as their kin, often drawn from nature, actions, or omens. A name is usually given at birth by the clan’s elder, inspired by the cub’s temperament or by signs witnessed at their birth. Unlike their playful cousins, however, Cougar Tabaxi names often carry a more stoic or predatory edge.

Examples of Cougar Tabaxi Names:

  • Ember in the Pines
  • Stone That Watches
  • Silent Prowler
  • Whisper on the Cliff
  • Dusk Between Peaks
  • Ash in the Snow
  • Eyes of the Storm
  • Rumble Beneath Earth

Most Cougar Tabaxi adopt a shortened version of their name when dealing with outsiders. Silent Prowler may simply be called Prowler, while Eyes of the Storm may go by Storm-Eyes.
