Homebrew Beastfolk Species Details
Beastfolk are the result of secretive bioengineering experiments conducted by Albion Technologies, in which human DNA was fused with that of local British fauna using variations of the Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV). Each subject’s mutations were unpredictable, influenced by the traits of their animal test subjects, resulting in hybrids with fur, feathers, scales, claws, or enhanced senses.
Unlike earlier FEV experiments, Beastfolk retain much of their cognitive function, though their physical and behavioral traits often reflect the instincts and abilities of their animal components. Some exhibit heightened agility, keen senses, or natural weaponry, while others may carry subtle physical adaptations that hint at their hybrid origins.
Beastfolk are generally stable, with their mutations irreversible, yet reproductive viability is inconsistent. Though regarded with suspicion or curiosity by other humans, they are fully sentient and capable of integrating into human society—or surviving on their own in the wild. Their appearance, abilities, and instincts make them uniquely adapted to the post-apocalyptic world, though every Beastfolk carries the undeniable mark of their origin as a test subject in Albion’s clandestine programs.
The mutation generally cannot be reversed, as once introduced to the subject, FEV automatically corrects any changes to DNA. A theoretical cure would have to both reintroduce the original DNA and prevent the FEV from overwriting it.
