Homebrew DRACOWULF Species Details

Born of ancient pacts between mighty dragons and primeval wolf spirits, Dracowulves are living embodiments of power wrapped in fur and scale. Their bodies merge dark lupine fur with hardened draconic plates, and their eyes burn with celestial intensity. A Dracowulf feels a natural pull toward protecting the innocent, guided by an ancestral purpose older than written history.

Legends claim that the first Dracowulves were created when great dragons sought loyal guardians to watch over sacred territories. Others say ancient wolf totems merged with draconic magic in times of cosmic upheaval, forging a new lineage of fierce protectors. Whatever their origin, Dracowulves carry the strength, instincts, and majesty of both creatures.

Feared by some and revered by many, Dracowulves stand as champions, wardens, scouts, or lone wanderers. Their presence commands respect — a wolf’s patience paired with a dragon’s wrath, a creature equally at home in moonlit forests and fire-lit battlefields.

Their appearance varies, but all Dracowulves share unmistakable traits: draconic scales across their shoulders and arms, a proud lupine muzzle, burning eyes of elemental color, and often wings capable of powerful bursts of flight. Their tails, claws, and posture mark their bestial heritage, while their scales, breath weapons, and elemental affinities reveal the draconic power flowing through their blood.

Breath Weapon

When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in either a 15-foot Cone or a 30-foot Line that is 5 feet wide (choose the shape each time). Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Constitution modifier and Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 1d10 damage of the type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach character levels 5 (2d10), 11 (3d10), and 17 (4d10).

You can use this Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Damage Resistance

You have Resistance to the damage type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Draconic Flight

You have draconic wings strong enough for short bursts of aerial movement.
You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed.

You can use this flying speed for a number of rounds equal to your proficiency bonus, after which you must land. You regain all uses when you finish a long rest.

You cannot use this flying speed while wearing medium or heavy armor.

Dracowulf Physique

You are a fusion of dragon and wolf. Your body is covered in dark fur reinforced by hardened draconic scales, and your senses and instincts reflect both ancestries. Your hybrid nature shapes all of your other traits.

Draconic Scales

Your hardened scales provide natural protection. While you aren’t wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You may still use a shield.

Tail Swipe

Your powerful tail can be used as a natural melee weapon.
You can make an unarmed strike with your tail, dealing 1d6 bludgeoning damage on a hit.
Instead of dealing damage, you may choose to attempt to shove the target.

Unyielding Will

Your draconic will and lupine resolve steel your mind. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Guardian’s Instinct

When a creature you can see within 5 feet of you is targeted by an attack, you may use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll.

You must be able to see the attacker and be wielding a shield or any simple or martial weapon.

You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after a long rest.
