Homebrew Amphitari (Melting Pot) Species Details

The Amphitari are a race of amphibians often resembling humanoid frogs. The Amphitari are an inquisitive and intellectual people, priding themselves on their intellect and academics. Many Amphitari pursue careers as scholars or educators, eager to share their acumulated knowledge with the world. They prefer locations with more humid climates with dense foliage and large trees suitable to build homes on. Amphitari favor a diet of plenty of fruits and vegetables, rarely consuming meat unless out of desperation.

Amphitari (Melting Pot) Traits

You have the following traits.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid.

Size

You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

Slimy

Your body naturally secretes a thin slimy mucus to help moisturize your skin. Creatures have disadvantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to grapple you.

Amphibious

You can breathe air and water.

Tongue Attack

You have a long tongue you can use to make unarmed strikes. Your tongue has 10 feet of reach and when you hit with it, the strike deals 1d4 + your Dexterity modifier bludgeoning damage.

Amphibian Sight

Your large eyes allow you to be able to perceive the world better than most other races. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Additionally, you have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Subrace

There are various different subraces of Amphitari

Axolotl
Your body resembles that of an axolotl. You possess external gills which sprout from the side of your head and you can regenerate wounds incredibly quickly.

Underwater Camouflage
While completely underwater, you are extremely difficult to see. You have advantage and +1 to stealth checks made while submerged.

Natural Regeneration
As an action, you can expend a number of hit die equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain a number of hit points equal to the total rolled. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. Additionally, you can fully regenerate lost limbs, except for your head, in 2d4 days.

Frog
You resemble a frog in appearance and possess powerful legs that allow you to jump incredibly high to reach places inaccessible to most races or to evade danger

Boundless Leap
When you jump you can long jump up to 20 ft and high jump up to 15 ft without a running start. With a running start you can long jump up to 30 ft or high jump 25 ft (15 ft running space required). Additionally, you do not provoke opportunity attacks while moving with a jump action.

Natural Climber
You can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. (This trait does not account for difficult terrain)

Newt
You resemble a newt in appearance and your body has adapted to secrete a powerful poison, deterring most creatures from harming you.

Poisonous Anatomy
You have resistance to poison damage. Additionally, as a reaction, when a creature attempts to make a melee attack or grapple check against you, it must succeed on a DC 10 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, on a Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. A creature poisoned in this way can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. Once you use this trait, you can not use it again until you finish a short rest.
