Homebrew Blood Elf Species Details

Graceful, radiant, and steeped in arcane power, Blood Elves are elves who have walked through tragedy and emerged sharpened by it. Their slender forms and refined features are unmistakably elven, but there is an intensity in their eyes—often burning gold, red, or emerald—that sets them apart from their kin. This glow comes from the arcane energies that suffuse their bodies, a lingering mark of the magic they draw upon to sustain themselves.

Once part of a proud and ancient civilization, Blood Elves carry the scars of a homeland that has suffered devastation. Their culture values beauty, discipline, and magical prowess, and they approach arcane study with both reverence and hunger. Many of them maintain a constant vigilance against the lingering ache of magical dependence, which shapes their worldview with a blend of ambition and melancholy.

Blood Elves dress in vibrant reds, golds, and blacks—colors symbolizing rebirth through fire, their people’s resilience, and their mastery of the arcane. Crystals, runes, and enchanted jewelry often adorn their clothing, each piece serving both aesthetic and practical purposes.

Though they possess the grace all elves share, Blood Elves tend to be more intense and driven. They push themselves to excel, often striving to reclaim lost glory or forge a new destiny free from the shadows of their past. Adventuring Blood Elves commonly wander to expand their magical knowledge, seek redemption, or gain strength to protect what remains of their culture.

As an Elf sub-race, you have these special traits.

Sanguine Resilience

Your magically infused blood toughens you. When you roll a Hit Die to regain hit points, you can add +1 to the roll.
At 5th level, this bonus increases to +2.

Bloodsense

Your attunement to the life force of others sharpens your perception. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks made to detect creatures that are bleeding, wounded, or below half hit points.

Blood Oath - Sanguine Reconstitution

When you start your turn at 0 hit points, your blood magically knits itself together. You regain 1 hit point.
This happens once per long rest.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Elven Lineage

You are part of a lineage that grants you supernatural abilities. Choose a lineage from the Elven Lineages table. You gain the level 1 benefit of that lineage.

When you reach character levels 3 and 5, you learn a higher-level spell, as shown on the table. You always have that spell prepared. You can cast it once without a spell slot, and you regain the ability to cast it in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the spells you cast with this trait (choose the ability when you select the lineage).
