Homebrew Canus Species Details

Canus can be anywhere from 2 to 7 feet tall, with their weight going from 50 pounds to as much as 450 pounds. You live slightly less than humans, reaching adulthood at around 14-16 and living to about 80. You have a furry body, elongated snout, and a tail.

Canus Traits

The canus are very similar to the Tabaxi, except that they are dogs. They come from the same lands and are rarely seen far away from their homes.

Ability score increase

+2 to charisma
+1 to dexterity

Canine agility and senses

You will choose 2 total proficiencies. Choose one from the first list and another from the second list.

Puppy dog eyes

Pick a number of creatures equal to your proficiency bonus that you can see and can see you within 15 feet of you. They must succeed on a charisma saving throw (DC 8+proficiency bonus+charisma modifier) or be charmed for 2 minutes. They will not do anything directly harmful to themselves while charmed, but will not harm you or your allies. You can use this once per short or long rest.

Bite attack

Whenever you make an unarmed strike, you deal 1d4 piercing damage instead of the usual bludgeoning.

Canine nature

Whenever you or an ally are both attacking an enemy, you both gain advantage on that attack. You do not have to be flanking, and either or both attacks can be ranged.

Languages

You can read, speak, and write Common. You can read and speak Canus; there is no written language.
