Homebrew Arcaneko Species Details

Age

Nekos mature around the age of 14 and live up to 70-90 years, with youthful vitality well into their adulthood.

Alignment

Nekos are often neutral, with a tendency toward chaotic alignments due to their curious and playful nature.

Neko Traits

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilight and shadow, you have superior vision in dim and dark conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Feline Agility

Your reflexes allow you to move with sudden bursts of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

Nimble Climber

You have a climbing speed of 20 feet, reflecting the Neko’s catlike ability to scale walls and other surfaces.

Cat’s Claws

Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. This can be handy when you're low on spells or in a tight situation.

Innate Magic (Feline Arcana)

Nekos have an inherent connection to arcane magic, which harmonizes with your Bladesinger training. These abilities don’t require material components:

  • 1st Level: You know the Mage Hand cantrip. This invisible hand represents your dexterous, light touch, useful for grabbing distant or delicate objects.

  • 3rd Level: At 3rd level, you can cast Blur once with this trait, as an extension of your agility and ability to make yourself difficult to pin down. You regain the ability to cast it this way after a long rest.

  • 5th Level: At 5th level, you can cast Mirror Image once with this trait. This mimics your catlike grace, allowing you to create illusory copies of yourself to confuse your foes. You regain the ability to cast it this way after a long rest.

Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Feline Reflexes

Your feline instincts give you an uncanny ability to dodge, reposition, and react quickly to danger. When a creature you can see targets you with an attack, you can use your reaction to move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. This movement happens before the attack roll is made, possibly taking you out of range of the attack or into a better defensive position. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses after a long rest.
