Homebrew Banned Illithid Species Details

You disrespected and broke away from the Elder Brain controlling you. You are immune to being controlled by any Elder brain. After you broke away from everything you were shunned and had to survive on your own, having to steal food and water and convince others for shelter (Learning to use your Dexterity and Charisma modifiers).

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence or your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Charisma or Wisdom score increases by 2

Age

Illithids start there lives out their life as tadpoles, as they mature, they are placed into a creature and slowly transform into a new Illithid. They live much longer than humans, often living on average for 125 years, though the true extent of their lifespan is unknown. 

Alignment

Illithid tend to lean more towards Lawful or Evil, but you are an outcast and may be anything you want.

Size

Illithid are roughly the same height and weight of humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Superior Darkvision

Accustomed to life underground, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Magic Resistance

You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Illithid Armor Training

You have proficiency with light, medium, and heavy armor and shields 

Illithid Combat Training

You have proficiency with the greatsword, longsword, rapier, scimitar, shortsword, and whip

Tentacles

You can grasp things with one of your 8 tentacles, which have the finesse property due to your banishment. They have a reach of 5 feet, and it can lift a number of pounds equal to your choice of Strength or Dexterity score. You can use it to do the following simple tasks: lift, drop, hold, push, or pull an object or a creature; open or close a door or a container; grapple someone; or make an unarmed strike. As an action, you can use your tentacles to try to grapple a creature, if you hit with them, the target takes Psychic damage equal to 1d6 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength/Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Immediately after hitting, you can try to grapple the target as a bonus action. Your DM might allow other simple tasks to be added to that list of options. If a creature is not normally in the presence of an Illithid, you had advantage on Intimidation checks against that creature.

Mind Blast

You can use your action to emit a wave of psychic energy. When you use your mind blast, each creature in a 60ft cone must make a saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Intelligence/Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d8 Psychic damage on a failed save and becomes stunned for 1 minute or take half as much damage on a successful and does not become stunned. The damage increases to 3d8 at 6th level, 4d8 at 11th level, and 5d8 at 16th level. After you use your mind blast, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Undercommon, and Deep Speech. Undercommon is a language of commerce among the subterranean races in the same way Common is among the surface dwellers. You can also read and write in Qualith, the Illithid way of writing that can only be read through touch with your tentacles.

Telepathy

You can speak telepathically with any intelligent creature within 120 feet of you.

Aberrant mind

You have resistance to all psychic damage.

Psionic Thinker

You gain proficiency in Arcana, Perception, and Deception skills.

Extract Brain

When you have a target grappled they can extract the brain dealing 4D10 piercing damage. They can do this a number of times equal to their Intelligence/Charisma modifier per long rest. This trait only works when the target has half of it's health remaining or less.
