Homebrew Bonbongänger Species Details

Settling in colder isolated regions, bonbongänger are a species of small humanoids resembling gingerbread cookies. The first batch of bonbongänger were produced by a baking-loving god, and the bonbongänger were bestowed with a special knowledge to craft more of themselves, eventually multiplying into their own species.

Their bodies are cookie, and this makes them vulnerable to being devoured by larger, hungry creatures. They live for around 20 years, and are manufactured immediately into adulthood.

Prolonged exposure to different cookie toppings has subtly transformed separate bonbongänger civilizations. Gumdrop, Peppermint, Icing, and Sprinkle are examples of variation-inducing confections. Each variation harnesses its own unique strengths and magic.

Candy Variation

As a Bonbongänger, you gain access to magic baked within you. Choose a confection from the Candy variation table. You gain the level 1 benefit of that lineage.

When you reach character levels 3 and 5, you learn a higher-level spell, as shown on the table. You always have that spell prepared. You can cast it once without a spell slot, and you regain the ability to cast it in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the spells you cast with this trait (choose the ability when you select the lineage).

Decorative Traits (Pick 4)

As a Bonbongänger, you have five special traits, including Candy Variation. You may select four additional special traits to decorate your Bonbongänger.

Cookie Reconstruction. You can separate and control a detached part of your body, a single limb or your legs from the waist down. As a bonus action you can command the detached limb to move as part of your speed and(or) interact with an object. The part retains your stats and has 1 hp, lowering your total hp by 1 upon detachment. This detachment ends if the part reaches 0hp, you rejoin it, or after one hour. You may perform this ability a number of times equal to your Proficiency bonus. You regain one use of this ability on a short rest, or all uses on a long rest.

Crispy. You fortify in the face of heat. If and when you take 6+ fire or lightning damage from a single attack, roll a 1d4 bonus to add to your AC. The bonus lasts until the end of your next turn.

Double Stuffed. You are the amalgamation of two cookie’s worth of dough. Your stature allows you to forgo disadvantage on attack rolls with heavy weapons.

Fabled Fugitive. Add your proficiency bonus to d20 checks to avoid or end the grappled condition. Additionally, as a Reaction you may move half your speed away from the source of an attack, potentially provoking opportunity attacks.

Gingerly. You have advantage on Dexterity and Wisdom saving throws.

Holly Jolly. A wintery energy compliments your simple melee and ranged weaponry. When you successfully attack a creature, make a d20 check. If the roll is 10 or higher, you inflict an additional 1d4+1 cold damage with your simple weapon.

Magic Baker. If you cast a 1st level spell with an area of effect, you may choose up to 2 creatures within the area of effect to gain 1d6 temporary hp. If you cast the spell at 2nd level or higher, the temporary hp increases by 1d6 for every slot level above 1st. You may perform this trait twice before a long rest.

Overcooked. Your hard body earns +1 to AC, and you are vulnerable to bludgeoning damage. You cannot choose both this and Undercooked.

Quality Assurance. You use your expertise in product pushing to guide others into using higher quality products or deceive others into using lower quality products. As a Reaction when a creature with 5 ft of you rolls for damage, you can increase or decrease the type of damage die one size (for example, a 1d4 up to 1d6, or a 1d12 down to 1d8). You may perform this a number of times equal to half your proficiency bonus rounded up, per long rest.

Sweet Stuff. You have advantage on any attempts to charm creatures, or the target creature has disadvantage when saving against being charmed by you. You also have disadvantage on any attempts to frighten creatures, or the target creature has advantage when saving against being frightened by you.

Undercooked. Your soft body gains you resistance to piercing damage. You cannot choose both this and Overcooked.

Variety Pack. If you spend a long rest alongside another bonbongänger, you have proficiency on two additional skills of your choice, or expertise in one additional skill until the start of your next long rest. You select the skill(s) at the end of a long rest.

Vicious Vagabond. You can bait foes into a delicious trap. You know the Primal Savagery cantrip. You have advantage on attack rolls with this cantrip if no allies are within 15ft of you.

Voidee. Folklore praises your ability to calm the stomach after a feast. Reduce your own hit points by 1d20 to touch a creature and end its paralyzed or poisoned condition. You may perform this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, per long rest.
