Homebrew Dracelari Species Details

The Dracelari

The Dracelari are exceedingly rare beings born from the union of dragons—often ancient metallic wyrms—and elves bound to forgotten divine traditions. Neither fully draconic nor wholly elven, they are living contradictions: graceful yet fearsome, disciplined yet volatile. Though classified among Draconic Races for ease of record, Dracelari are humanoids with significant elven ancestry.

Unlike dragonborn, the Dracelari inherit true draconic essence, expressed through faint scales, vestigial horns, and a voice that resonates with ancient authority. From their elven lineage they gain long memory, restraint, and reverence for balance. Dracelari are considered humanoids for the purpose of spells and effects.

Their power is not drawn from modern gods or churches, but from Old Gods—primordial entities predating divine hierarchies. This bond grants great strength, but at a cost: when exposed to corruption, injustice, or forbidden magic, the Dracelari may falter, risking temporary spiritual fracture.

Most Dracelari live as wanderers, oath bearers, or guardians. Many are mistrusted by churches and kingdoms alike, feared for their refusal to bow to dogma.

Dracelari are uncommon hybrids formed from the union of elves and dragons or from bloodlines infused with ancient draconic power. Though classified among draconic races for recordkeeping, Dracelari are humanoids in both body and spirit, capable of blending into elven society—at least at first glance.

Their appearance varies greatly depending on ancestry. Dracelari possess mostly elven features, but closer inspection reveals fine, subtle scales along the cheekbones, shoulders, collarbone, or forearms. These scales are faint and matte, blending naturally with skin tones rather than overtly replacing them. Horns are present but understated, often curving back along the temples or crown and easily concealed beneath hair, helms, or hoods. When revealed, however, their draconic nature is unmistakable.

Coloration among Dracelari has no single theme. Skin, scales, eyes, and even magical effects reflect the elemental affinity or scale color of the draconic parent or ancestral source. Some bear embers beneath their skin, others a frost-sheen, storm-gold eyes, or earthen hues. No two Dracelari lineages are truly alike.

Most Dracelari favor armor, often heavy or ceremonial, which helps conceal their draconic traits while symbolizing discipline and control. As a Dracelari grows in power, their draconic features may become more pronounced scales spreading, horns sharpening, eyes glowing, and voices gaining a subtle resonant echo.

This transformation is gradual and not always welcomed. Dracelari blood is powerful but volatile; exposure to dark corruption, abyssal magic, or draconic domination can temporarily amplify their draconic traits and strain their emotional control. Such changes are never permanent, but they mark an ongoing struggle between restraint and ancient power.

Dracelari are defined not by what they are born as, but by how they choose to wield what stirs within them.

This species is balanced against official 2024 species and intentionally lacks permanent flight or innate spellcasting above cantrip level.
