Homebrew Pixie Species Details

“Petal gowns and acorn caps are so last summer!”

Pixies array themselves like princes and princesses of the fey, wearing flowing gowns and doublets of silk that sparkle like moonlight on a pond. Some dress in acorns, leaves, bark, and the pelts of tiny woodland beasts. They take great pride in their regalia and beam with joy when they are complimented on their ensembles.

Tiny Tricksters.

While the arrival of visitors piques their curiosity, pixies are too shy to reveal themselves at first. They study the visitors from afar to gauge their temperament or play harmless tricks on them to measure their reactions. For example, pixies might tie a dwarf’s boots together, create illusions of strange creatures or treasures, or use dancing lights to lead interlopers astray. If the visitors respond with hostility, the pixies give them a wide berth. If the visitors are good natured, the pixies are likely to be emboldened and more friendly. The fey might even emerge and offer to guide their “guests” along a safe route or invite them to a tiny yet satisfying feast prepared in their honor.

Opposed to Violence. 

Unlike their fey cousins, the sprites, pixies abhor weapons and would sooner flee than get into a physical altercation with any enemy.

Glittering Energy

A pixie's energy and enthusiasm for living shine through their minescule forms. Pixies average slightly over 6 inches all and weigh 8 to 15 pounds. Their tan or brown faces are usually adorned with broad smiles(beneath oversized shining eyes and thin pointed noses They tend to have hair in vibrant shades as well, pinks and purples, greens and blues, or even red as blood.

A pixie's personality is writ large in his or her appearance: youthful and exuberant even into old age, pixies seldom grow beards or have excessive body hair, but often deocrate their bodies and wings with elaborate paints that signfiy their tribes, acomplishments, or goals in life.

Delightful Companions, Deadly Enemies

Pixie make friends easily and readily, and once you've earned their trust and friendship it can be difficult to lose it. Unfortuantely this has lead in some cases to pixies being exploited by more conniving of the larger folk, but anyone who would think to try such dastardly deeds should reconsider. Once the limits of their tolerance and patience has worn thin, pixies can be vengeful and terrifying. Those who anger a pixie often feel the wrath of her entire tribe. Doom awaits those who underestimate or exploit these fluttering fey.

Forest Fortress

Whether in their native plane or on a world of the Prime Material, pixies tend to gravitate towards trees to make their homes. Their magic warps the fabric of space within the tree, and even a relatively modest connifer can house a resplendant palace within, and the tallest redwoods can, when colonized by pixies, become entire cities. These tree forts are well defended, and many a would-be industrialist has been confounded by the sabotage of pixie tricksters if the home tree ends up marked for timber.

Pixie Names

Pixie names tend to echo the things they see around them in nature and often sound like the literal translationd of elven names. There's no distinction between male and female names among pixies, but those that interact with more terrestrial folk often catch on if their name gets them funny looks and adopt a nickname or monicker to prevent awkwardness.

Pixie Traits

Your pixie character has certain characteristics in common with all other pixies.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

Pixies mature at the same rate humans do and reach adulthood in their early 20s. They rarely live to the end of their second century.

Alignment

Pixies are most often good. They enjoy frienship and nature and tend toward chaotic more than lawful. Evil pixies are rare, and are typically outcasts from their tree and tribe.

Size

Pixies are between 6 and 8 inches tall and weigh 8 to 15 pounds. Your size is Tiny. Because you are Tiny, you can enter the space of a Small or larger creature and end your turn there (forced movement must still end in an unoccupied space, unless noted otherwise).

Speed

Your base walking speed is 10 feet. Your fly speed is 30 feet.

Pixie Wings

A pixie's tiny form gives it a very slow walking speed, but pixies can hover indefinitely at 5-10 ft. Your fly speed is 30; however, you fall at the end of your turn if you are using your racial fly speed and are more than 10 ft. above the ground

Wee Warrior

When weilding a melee weapon, your reach is 5ft. You can flank and count as engaged with an opponent as normal for the purposes of opportunity attacks and sneak attack damage. You have disadvantage on all contested Strength Ability checks, as well as Strength checks to push, pull, lift, or break things.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish.

Magical Faerie Folk

As a living creature of the forest you know the Druidcraft. With their innate power of invisibility, pixies rarely appear unless they wish to be seen. when you reach level 3 you can cast  Invisibility once a day, Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Darkvison

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
