Homebrew Lightbringer Species Details

Lightbringers are an old as well as a new race, indeed they are timeless beings, they have no apparent sign of old age. It is to be born from interplanar journeys, the energy and emotions left by travelers and people changing planes materialize thanks to this form of life.

Occasionally, Lightbringers result from exposure to an interplanar power wave, through phenomena such as an eruption of inner planes or a planar convergence. The magical energy of the different planes saturates all the creatures in the region and can change their nature enough for their offspring with other mortals to be born as Lightbringers.

Heirs of great power

Lightbringers inherit something on both sides of their dual nature. They look like humans but have almost translucent skin, and their veins cause a bright liquid to flow, emitting a slight light, so they are very clear and often visible. This blood often allows them to manifest a certain form of magic, and their hair are very brightly coloured, sometimes almost shiny.
In appearance, a Lightbringer can generally be mistaken for a human. Lightbringers are also all surprisingly light weight, they weigh no more than twenty kilos ( ~45 lbs. ).

A Lightbringer is therefore born from an infusion of powerful planar magic in a mortal. It will grow extremely quickly, reaching an adult and definitive stage in only a few months and will not age afterwards. Lightbringers are not immortal, but remain all their lives with a young body, until one day they simply disappear. So there is no burial or ceremony for the death of these beings.

Some Lightbringers live like outcasts, driven into exile for their disturbing appearance and strange magic, or head for wild humanoids and strange cults in wildlands. Others acquire positions of great influence, especially where magical beings are revered. Some Lightbringers also seek to travel between planes, approaching the very nature of what they are.

A Timeless Body

Lightbringers can live well over 700 years, giving them a broad perspective on our world. They most often use this time to learn more about living. They tend to get involved against their will, due to their curious nature. Even with this timeless perspective, Lightbringers are quick to make new friends or enemies.

Lightbringers are extremely curious about the feelings of humanoids, coming themselves from the magic of the journey of a certain being, they are always curious about those around them, seeking to understand how each world works.
As rare beings, Lightbringers can spend their entire lives without meeting another of their kind. There are no big cities or empires for them.

Call of the light

You know the light cantrip. Once you reach 5th level, you can cast the misty step spell once with this trait as a 2nd-level spell, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
