Homebrew Aeralynx Species Details
Aeralynx are fey humanoids with feline features and delicate, butterfly-like wings that shimmer with subtle magic. Though they stand and move like humans, their posture, expressions, and fluid motions betray their feline nature—ears twitch at distant sounds, tails sway with emotion, and their wings flutter instinctively when excited or threatened.
Born of the Feywild, Aeralynx are creatures of curiosity and choice. Rather than inheriting rigid traditions or kingdoms, each Aeralynx forms deep bonds with places and people they deem worthy. Some swear themselves to ancient forests, forgotten ruins, or Fey crossings reclaimed by nature. Others thrive in cities, adopting streets, rooftops, and neighborhoods as fiercely as any wild territory.
Aeralynx value freedom above all else. Promises mean more than laws, loyalty outweighs blood, and ownership—of land or people—is viewed with suspicion. They are playful and expressive, but beneath their charm lies sharp perception and long memory. Kindness is treasured and returned many times over; betrayal is rarely forgiven.
Adventuring Aeralynx are often driven by curiosity, devotion to a threatened home, or a promise that has pulled them beyond familiar skies. Whether drifting silently above forest canopies or leaping between lantern-lit rooftops, they carry the Feywild’s wonder wherever their wings take them.
Aeralynx Lore
Origins
The Aeralynx are said to have been shaped by the Feywild itself—born when curious fey spirits watched mortal cities grow and forests shrink, and decided to walk between both worlds. They took humanoid form to better speak, bargain, and bond, but kept the grace of cats and the wings of butterflies, symbols of freedom and fleeting beauty.
Legends claim the first Aeralynx emerged from moonlit cocoons hanging from silver-leaf trees, their wings unfurling at dusk as the forest whispered their names.
Nature and Temperament
Aeralynx are emotional, intuitive, and deeply loyal—but only to those who earn it.
-
They choose friends, families, and even cities.
-
Once bonded, an Aeralynx will defend their chosen place with surprising ferocity.
-
They dislike rigid hierarchies, contracts, and ownership, preferring promises made face-to-face.
They are naturally playful, but this should never be mistaken for foolishness. An Aeralynx observes quietly, remembers slights forever, and repays kindness tenfold.
Wildwing Aeralynx (Nature-Bound)
Wildwings live in overgrown ruins, ancient forests, Fey crossings, and reclaimed places where nature has pushed civilization aside.
They act as:
-
Silent wardens of sacred groves
-
Guides for lost travelers (if amused)
-
Tricksters who punish those who harm the land
Wildwing communities are loose and seasonal, gathering only during celestial events like solstices or Fey crossings. Elders are respected, but no one truly rules.
“The forest does not command us. We listen.”
Alleycat Aeralynx (City-Bonded)
Alleycats thrive in cities, ports, and sprawling towns, often unseen among rooftops and alleyways.
They:
-
Adopt neighborhoods like territories
-
Watch over street children, artisans, and outcasts
-
Trade favors instead of coin
Alleycats form informal “clowders” tied to districts rather than bloodlines. These groups often have names known only to their members and leave subtle chalk or claw-mark signs to mark safe routes and hidden homes.
“This street is ours. You’re ours now too.”
Religion and Belief
Most Aeralynx do not worship gods in the traditional sense. Instead, they revere:
-
The Moon (change and cycles)
-
Old Trees and Old Streets (memory)
-
Powerful Fey Lords, cautiously and temporarily
Shrines are temporary—flowers, ribbons, glowing paint—meant to fade naturally.

Aeralynx names are melodic and fluid, often changing over time.
-

-
Curiosity overwhelms contentment
-
A promise pulls them beyond home

The Feywild calls them back… or away
They make excellent rogues, rangers, bards, druids, monks, and sorcerers, though any class is possible.
