Homebrew Black Bodega Cat - Leo Species Details
Black Bodega Cats are street-wise familiars of the city: cats who have grown up among flickering fluorescent lights, rattling fridges, murmured spells disguised as gossip, and the quiet magic of survival. They nap on bread racks, judge customers harshly, and learn quickly that everything has a pattern, including magic.
Many bodega cats become wizards not through formal tutelage, but through observation, eavesdropping, and stealing spell components off countertops. Wizards among them favor practical magic, clever preparation, and escape plans.
Black Bodega Cat - Leo Traits
Your character has the following racial traits.Ability Score Increase
Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet and your climbing speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision
You have a cat’s keen senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can discern color in darkness.
Shadow-Coat
Your black fur blends unnervingly well into clutter and shadow.
- You have proficiency in Stealth.
- When you are in dim light, darkness, or heavily cluttered spaces (shelves, crates, crowds), you may take the Hide action as a bonus action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Feline Cant (a mixture of body language, subtle sounds, and expressions understood by other cats and certain magical creatures).

- Once per long rest, when you cast a wizard spell of 1st level or lower, you may do so without expending a spell slot, provided the spell is flavored as improvised, subtle, or disguised as coincidence.
Cat Reflexes
When you fall, you land on your feet.
- You take no damage from falling if the fall is 20 feet or less.
- You have advantage on Dexterity saving throws made to avoid being knocked prone.
Experiential Learner
You gain resilience through failure.
- When you fail a saving throw against a spell or magical effect, you may use your reaction to gain advantage on the next spell attack roll or spell save DC you force before the end of your next turn without expending a spell slot.
- You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) per long rest.
