Homebrew Mothfolk Species Details
Mothfolk are quiet wanderers of twilight and shadow, humanoids touched by dusk rather than darkness. Their forms are slender and soft-featured, with large, luminous eyes adapted to dim and starlit places. Gossamer wings—powdered with faintly glowing dust—rise from their backs, shedding a gentle shimmer that can be dimmed to near invisibility or allowed to glow like moonlit silk.
Often found near ancient forests, fungal groves, ruins reclaimed by nature, or places where light and shadow blur together, mothfolk live attuned to subtle currents others overlook. They move with uncanny silence, their steps and wingbeats barely disturbing air or leaf, and they seem instinctively aware of unseen eyes and hidden presences. Many claim mothfolk can feel when they are being watched, even if they cannot say by whom.
Mothfolk experience emotion as something almost tangible. Drifting motes of dust shed from their wings are said to resonate with memory, mood, and feeling rather than simple light. As a result, mothfolk are often empathetic, contemplative, and slow to act in anger, though when threatened they become still and resilient, enduring danger with calm resolve.
Despite their gentle reputation, mothfolk are not weak. Their wings carry protective dust, and their bond with dusk grants them both awareness and endurance when conflict arises. They favor patience over force, misdirection over confrontation, and guidance over command.
In broader societies, mothfolk are frequently misunderstood—mistaken for fey, spirits, or omens—but those who earn their trust find them loyal companions and thoughtful allies. Many feel a quiet pull toward deep forests and ancient places, guided by an instinctive longing they cannot fully explain, as if something old and green still remembers them
