Homebrew Lustrian Arachne Species Details
In Lustria, thread is not merely craft—it is contract, inheritance, and survival. The Loomborn also called Arachne, are born with an inner living spool of arcane silk and a rare instinct called pattern-sense: the ability to feel tension, structure, and hidden seams in cloth, cord, leather, and even the faint “stitch-lines” of magic.
The Royal Looms
The Loomborn became the quiet backbone of power because they make authority wearable. Royal houses commission coronation mantles that do not stain, veils that blur the face from scrying eyes, and sashwork that records lineage in hidden stitch-maps known as Regalia Patterns. These garments are political weapons—proof of legitimacy, tokens of alliance, and sometimes… threats.
Every major commission carries a secret signature seam called a Thread-Right. It serves three purposes:
-
Authenticity: it proves the garment is real
-
Warranty: it allows repair work to “lock” back into the original pattern
-
Protection: it resists tampering and counterfeiting
Counterfeit Loomwrights are hunted like coin forgers—because in Lustria, a forged uniform can start a war.
The Army Loom
Lustria’s weather and war are equally cruel. Armor rusts. Leather rots. Straps fail at the worst moment. So generals contract Loomborn not for glamour—but for endurance. A Loomborn quartermaster can keep a force marching through swamp and salt, stitch wounds closed when surgeons are gone, and produce rope, nets, and field repairs fast enough to matter.
A unit assigned a Loomborn is called a Threaded Company, and soldiers will tell you the same thing:
“Steel wins battles. Thread wins campaigns.”
Guildhouses and Traditions
Most Loomborn train under one of the great houses of thread:
-
Tri-Point Patternwrights: scholarly pattern-math and clean battlefield control
-
Hidun Loomhall: contracts, quotas, supply lines, anti-counterfeit stitch-law
-
Behar Court-Looms: fashion as diplomacy, intimidation, and coded status
-
Ubalam Spindle-Kin: older spirit-friendly weaving, camouflage and weather wards
The Needle Oath
Nearly every Loomborn who works courts swears the Needle Oath: never stitch coercion into coronation cloth or command regalia. The rumor that some crowns broke that oath is one of the oldest fears in Lustria—because if thread can protect… thread can control.
RACIAL TRAITS

When you create your character, choose one of the following options:
-
Increase one ability score by 2 and a different ability score by 1, or

Increase three different ability scores by 1 each.
Creature Type
You are a Humanoid.
Size
You are Medium or Small (choose when you select this race).
Speed
Your walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision
Accustomed to dim loomhalls and late-night stitchwork, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Wall-Crawler
You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. You can climb along walls and ceilings without needing free hands, provided you aren’t incapacitated.
Weaver’s Training
You have proficiency with weaver’s tools.
Whenever you make an ability check using weaver’s tools to repair, reinforce, or craft cloth, leather straps, rope, nets, tents, sails, uniforms, or similar gear, you can add 1d4 to the roll.
Pattern-Sense
You can feel tension and false seams in materials and snares.
-
You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to notice tripwires, nets, snares, pressure cords, or concealed bindings within 10 feet of you if they involve rope, cord, fabric, or similar materials.
-
You have advantage on ability checks made to identify counterfeit textiles or uniforms.
Thread Reserve
You carry an inner spool of arcane silk called Thread, used to power your Loomborn techniques.
-
You have a number of Thread points equal to your proficiency bonus (minimum 2).
-
You regain all expended Thread when you finish a long rest.
Threadcasting Ability. Choose Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma when you select this race. That ability is used for any Loomborn trait that requires a saving throw.
Thread Save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your chosen modifier
Spin Thread
Your body can produce only so much Thread at a time, but you can force the spool to refill in bursts.
As a bonus action, you regain 1 Thread (up to your maximum).
You can use this bonus action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all uses when you finish a long rest.
Overdraw the Spool
When you have 0 Thread, you can force a painful surge of silk.
As a bonus action, you regain 1 Thread, and you take 1d10 necrotic damage for every 2 levels you are (this damage ignores resistance and immunity).
Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Silkcraft Conjuring
You can turn Thread into practical creations. As an action, you spend Thread to create one of the following objects in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you:
-
Silk Rope (1 Thread): up to 30 feet of rope (functions as normal rope)
-
Silk Net (1 Thread): functions as a net
-
Silk Patch (1 Thread): a sturdy 5-foot square sheet of silk that can serve as a tarp, sling, bandage wrap, or quick cover (DM’s discretion)
-
Silk Ladderline (2 Thread): a climbing line that supports weight like rope; you can anchor it to a ledge, beam, or fixture you can reach (DM’s discretion)
These creations last for 1 hour, after which they unravel into harmless strands.
Thread Techniques
You can spend Thread to perform the following techniques. You must have at least one free hand or weaver’s tools to use a Thread Technique.
Crochet Snare (1 Thread)
Action | 30 feet | 1 creature
The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or become restrained until the end of your next turn. On a success, its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the end of your next turn.
Knit Ward (1 Thread)
Bonus Action | 30 feet | 1 creature
The target gains a +2 bonus to AC until the start of your next turn.
Thread Step (1 Thread)
Bonus Action | Self
You move up to 15 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. This movement can be along walls or ceilings if you have a surface to cling to.
Emergency Stitch (2 Thread)
Reaction | Self (when you take damage)
Reduce the damage by 1d8 + your proficiency bonus.
Lifeline Stitch (2 Thread)
Reaction | 30 feet (when a creature you can see takes falling damage or is about to fall)
You cast a snapping silk line. Reduce the triggering creature’s falling damage by 3d6, and you can move it up to 5 feet horizontally to a surface, ledge, or anchor point you can see (DM’s discretion).
The reduction becomes 4d6 at 5th level, 5d6 at 11th level, and 6d6 at 17th level.
Slip the Bind (1 Thread)
Reaction | Self (when you become grappled or restrained)
You spin slick thread and slip free. End the grapple or the restrained condition on yourself if the restraint is made of rope, cloth, nets, vines, webbing, straps, or similar bindings (DM’s discretion). Magical restraints may require a saving throw at the DM’s discretion.
Mending Lace (2 Thread)
Action | Touch | 1 creature
The target regains hit points equal to 1d6 + your proficiency bonus.
This healing increases to 2d6 + PB at 5th level, 3d6 + PB at 11th level, and 4d6 + PB at 17th level.

-
Entangle (2 Thread): You can cast Entangle by spending 2 Thread.

Your Threadcasting ability (chosen in Thread Reserve) is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

You can typically secure safe lodging near loomhalls, tailors, quartermasters, or textile guilds in settlements that respect the Loomborn (DM’s discretion).
-
If you present your work or Thread-Right, you may gain an audience with a quartermaster, guild clerk, or minor noble functionary who understands the value of Loomcraft (DM’s discretion).
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
