Homebrew urRu Species Details

Appearance

urRu are bipedal creatures possessing four arms, a long thick tail and long neck with a reptilian-like face. They have long manes that run the length of their necks, stopping just above the shoulder blades. While they can rise to a full and impressive height on strong back legs, they prefer to walk hunched over and will sometimes use their bottommost arms as extra balance. They decorate their skins with runes and writings they find important. Each hand has three fingers and a thumb. Their skin tones are soft tans and browns. Mane and eye colors vary but are usually very drab and earthy.

Culture

urRu are peaceful nomads, set to lives of contemplation and harmony. They dislike breaking or disposing of anything and will do their utmost to use everything until it literally falls apart. They have a few items of personal importance but generally do not have possessions. Most of these personal items are related to musical abilities or an urRu’s topic of interest. Minimalism is a very common theme with shared items being passed from one to the other as needed or desired.

They are ruled by a passive type of commonality wherein the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many. All decisions are based upon what is best for the elderly, sick, with child, or very young. If something would not benefit the smaller minority groups than the idea is not entertained. The herd does have a head, a Mystic, who interprets this commonality into rules, laws or decisions. This position is usually taken up by a non-gendered urRu.

Clothing is usually functional first and fashionable second. urRu are not looked down upon if they favor a certain color or dress in a way that may not make the most sense, but in general they like everything to serve as much purpose as possible. Pockets, bags and carrying capacity are foremost in any urRu’s mind as their nomadic lifestyle necessitates taking everything with them.

--Most urRu are eager to teach their specific skills or share their knowledge with others. They enjoy the one-on-one type of environment a master and student relationship affords them.

Mentality

urRu are often viewed as naïve and peaceful to a fault. This leads to a reputation of being easy to fool, rule or over-power. They are seen as slow moving and old fashioned. Their nomadic lifestyle has left very little room for any kind of technological advancements and this makes them seem stale or ancient other races. They do carry themselves like moving artifacts and do not seem to take to change at all, preferring to do things the way they have always been done and seeming to laugh at any suggestion they act otherwise.

In truth urRu are not to be taken lightly. The best doctor knows the quickest ways to kill a person and as such the urRu’s knowledge and meditation can make them fierce opponents. They are steadfast against troublemakers for the sake of trouble and will go out of their way to attempt to restore peace in conflict. They believe everything has a diplomatic solution and that talking can solve all problems if both sides agree to try.

They view the other races as too quick to act, reckless even, and are eager to help them slow down and reach harmony. They do not hold grudges but can quickly lose faith or trust in a person. They dislike generalizations and judge each individual on their own merit and not upon actions of their race or family.

Religion

urRu are the most religious of all the races of Thra and they seem to have a deity for everything from emotions to states of being to days of the week to seasons and everything in between. Most urRu chose to dedicate themselves to a few specific deities, though all participate in larger celebrations regardless of their chosen deities.

Thra herself is the main deity upon which all others look to for guidance. She is often depicted as a very round humanoid, possessing little aside from a circular body, large three fingered hands, and a tail upon which rides all of the other deities.

As urRu have tons of deities they should all reflect their lifestyle. No strict rules for worship or how many deities one may follow exist, though all urRu are expected to pay frequent respects to Thra.

Sexuality & General Open Mindedness

Among themselves the urRu tend not to have labels of any kind, nothing is assumed from urRu to urRu and there exists no ‘normal’. They do understand that most races cling to these ideas and so when interacting with Thra’s other races they will adopt common terms such as male or female, and types of sexuality. They do, however, like to point out that these things are fleeting and have no real hold on the world at large while not faulting the other races for needing such labels.

Classes

urRu are free to pick any classes and have no limitations, however they excel at healing, Druidry and archery.

Darker type classes (such as warlock and rogue) have their place in urRu society without much change. The urRu do understand and appreciate the whole life cycle and as such death and other unpleasantness have their place. A urRu warlock, for example, might follow a god of death or temptation.
