Homebrew Ajarakin Species Details
"What an odd creature, that ape. Visited town early this morning, asking for job offers before disappearing into the forest come noon. Asked for no lodging, nor food or drink. I do wonder what became of him."
-Gorm Ruthman, Ealdorman
Hailing from the volcanic lands of Del-Rakaad, the Ajarakin are distantly related to Humanity. Living in their volatile home has forced the Ajarakin to adapt or perish, even taking a page out of the book from the explosive environment they call home. These primate folk are best known for their relentless determination and fiery personalities. With the explosive Firestone Gems growing on their backs, arms and tails, they are plenty formidable in battle and near impossible to deal with should they siege a city. With their natural strength and dexterity they dominate the hand-to-hand and close the distance with soaring leaps.
Considering Humanity to be kin and equals in the natural world, they are rather amicable and cooperative to their smaller cousins. Often do the two sign mercantile treaties and arms deals to make up for each other's weaknesses. The Ajarakin are all of a Chaotic disposition, believing that only nature makes the rules and that any creature of her creation should be free to make their own fate. As such, they tend to fall into the neutral and good alignments with most becoming alchemists, body guards for weaker races, or bounty hunters.
All Ajarakin sport their signature Firestone Gem back-crest, a large deposit of Firestone Gems for them to pluck off and use as tools, ingredients or weapons depending on the situation. On average they are about the size of an Orc, 6 to 7.5 feet tall, and a bit wider and broader shouldered than they. Their faces tend to be longer than a human's, with a more pronounced chin and brow-line. There eyes vary in color from a bright, sunny yellow to a dark, fiery orange. Along their arms and broad tails are other, smaller deposits of Firestone Gems. These growths are primarily used in tinkering and combat, as the back-crest is seen as sacred and should never be harvested from.
Ajarakin names are often simple, two worded verbs or adjectives that the individual is known for or commonly does. Names such as "Friend Saver", "Gem Thrower", "Kin Protector" and "Flame Licked" are all very possible names for an Ajarakin. Though, only Ajarakin who have proven themselves to their troop or have risked their lives to protect a loved one may be named.
